I know that I'm a bad person because I found this so funny.

News of the less-surprising:

21 people treated for burns after firewalk at Tony Robbins appearance

SAN JOSE -- Amid inspirational talk, chanted mantras and shouts of victory at a late-night firewalking event attended by thousands Thursday came agonized shrieks from followers whose soles were scorched by the superheated coals, witnesses said.

At least 21 people were treated for burn injuries after taking part in the crowning event of the first day of a Tony Robbins function downtown, including at least three who went to the hospital, a San Jose fire captain said.

The people who suffered various second- and third-degree burn injuries were among more than 6,000 who attended the motivational speaker's event at the San Jose Convention Center called "Unleash the Power Within."

After the event, which ended about 11 p.m., the crowd walked across the street to the park, where 12 lanes of hot coals measuring 10 feet long and 2½-feet wide rested on the grass.

Jonathan Correll, 25, decided to check out what was going on when "I heard wails of pain, screams of agony."

I found it funny too, deepsepia!

The reason being that some people seem to believe that peer-pressure, the herd instinct, and blind stupidity somehow equate to "motivation"! Well, of course it is possible to be motivated by blind stupidity, but I'd hardly describe it as a positive quality!

I'd love to go on one of those "motivational" courses, and when the guy running it claimed that pain can be overcome if your just believe in yourself, I'd suggest that rather than walking on hot coals, everyone should take in in turns to kick him in the nuts! After all, if what he said was true, all he had to do was "believe" in himself, and it wouldn't hurt!

Third degree burns ? That's just stupid - by the time it gets that bad it's gone so deep into the skin it's killed/burnt the nerve endings and you don't feel the pain. How long do you have to walk on coals for that to happen ???

My favorite detail was the individual who described repeating his mantra "cool moss" as he walked over the coals.

Something went wrong here. Firewalking isn't a "mind over physics" thing-- the actual heat capacity of coals are low, and ash is an insulator-- so the reason you don't suffer burns is because the coals just can't transmit enough heat to you. Something was different here-- maybe the coals hadn't been burned long enough, maybe something differerent about them

Here Here! I have been watching the Eurosport coverage all week and as a spectacle I don't think the Tour De France can be beaten.

I'm a big fan of cycling and wish him all the best. He's also part of the movement

Congratulations to Bradley Wiggins on winning the Tour de France.
Also, well done to his teammates, particularly Chris Froome and Mark Cavendish.
A great day for British cycling.
