I preferred Emma Peel to all the other replacements. She seems to have more style and graceful moves when kicking butt. And, my favorite episode was the one with the comic book character killing off publishing big-wigs, The Winged Avenger.

this has to be one of the absolute coolest threads anywhere. Mrs.Peel set the standard for all women to be measured against. The coolest, most beautiful, confident, gracious, ass kicking with humility. Wonderful memories of the greatest era.
The House That Jack Built is way ahead of it's time. Much like The Prisoner |

Where did you dig this thread up from?
Given Joanna, Diana and Honor all were in Bond films, they clearly had talent. But Linda Thorsen was not as bad as she is sometimes portrayed. And she drove my dream car a Lotus Europa. There was a lot of cross polination between Bond and The Avengers. Read the story A View to A Kill and then watch New Avengers episode Forward Base. Joanna is my Avengers girl, if I do have to pick 1.

A little history lesson (just for reference)
Steed's partner in the first series was Ian Hendry as Dr. David Keel who was 'avenging' the death of his fiancee. Ian Hendry dropped out after the first series (only 2 episodes of which survive) so, for series 2, so they made Steed the central character with three, usually unwilling, sidekicks. Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman) - who became the blueprint for the strong, intelligent partner, Venus Smith (Julie Stevens) - a young, rather naive jazz singer, Julie is best known in the UK as a presenter of pre-school children's TV programme Play School. Dr. Martin King (Jon Rollason) - Apparently they had quite a few unused scripts some of which only worked with the character being a male doctor. For series three they decided to scrap the other two and stick with Cathy Gale as Steed's only partner. Series 4 - Honor Blackman went to America to be in Goldfinger & was replaced by Diana Rigg. (There's a lovely little easter egg in one on the episodes where Steed recieves a Christmas card from Mrs. Gale "What on earth is she doing in Fort Knox?") This is the series that, IMO, set the template. They Introduced more humour & the stories got progressively sillier (not in a bad way) and moved away from the usually darker stories of the earlier series & they introduced the classic theme music, previously the theme was a jazz number by Johnny Dankworth. They also recycled a few of the scripts from the Mrs. Gale Era. Diana Rigg, of course, set the gold standard as Mrs. Emma Peel until she decided to move on & the young & inexperienced actress Linda Thorson took over as Tara King. Tara was originally meant to be blonde in contrast to the auburn Emma Peel but the dye used made her hair fall out, hence Tara's extensive use of wigs in the earlier stories. Oh, and the storylines got even sillier, but no less enjoyable. Oops, almost forgot to tell you my preferences. Diana Rigg was the better partner but I'm a sucker for beautiful eyes so Linda Thorson "just" edges ahead in the looks department. Anyway... sorry for the long, but hopefully informative, post. You can get more information than you'll ever need at the link below. they even list & identify every car in all the series! Even the ones parked in the background! http://theavengers.tv/forever/guide.htm |

My problem with the Tara King character is the inconsistent writing. They couldn't seem to decide if she was a genius or a bimbo and just bounced between them.
Linda Thorson wasn't a great actor but she wasn't given much to work with. |

They should have given the role to Liz Fraser after Diana Rigg left , she was brilliant in the episode she was in 10 times better than LindaThorson ever was .
