@footstep: Speaking of Deep Purple, I recently acquired The Purple Album by Whitesnake. It includes many songs that are either covers or inspired by Deep Purple. It is somewhat derivative, like the musician who once called David Coverdale, "David Cover-version"... Seriously, this album's inside notes reveal little-known facts about Deep Purple, such as one of the guys being heavily into Ouija boards and/or paganism/occultism. [This parallels Stevie Nicks and the people in Fleetwood Mac being into weird things and hard drugs in the '70s...]

This video is from the final year of Whitesnake during their glam metal phase: <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-HiJFLpmLQ>

Coverdale has, in his own words, "No F---ing Regrets" about this aberration in their style.

If "Slip of the Tongue" (from where that track is taken) is an aberration, well, it started on "1987", that's where the band sold their soul to the commercial music devil, so to speak. Yes, "Slip..." was a bit too much for my taste, but worse things have been said about that new version of "Fool for your loving".
Regrets or not, those releases put the band in the spotlight of AOR music and got them tons of money. To me, it was either that or calling it quits.

Very few bands ever age well let alone write new material
that compares to their best early stuff

Given who Coverdale was with before Whitesnake they were on a hiding to nothing

Sell outs perhaps but with so many old bands touring their obviously in demand

I havent listened to Whitesnake since the 90s when they had a few songs on some metal compilation - wine women and song or here I go again

The one thing thats still in the dark recesses of my mind is certain lyrics

"Would i lie to you , just to get in your pants , i think so"

Great wordsmiths maybe not

All albums songs linked to lyrics

Some take rock a bit too seriously IMO.
I thought it was meant to be fun?

At the end of the day Whitesnake sold 100 million albums, at least as many as 'The Purps' (as Bad News called them) and Coverdale get's royalties from both. So I don't think he could give a toss.

Both added together are far less than ACDC who never took themselves too seriously or gave a toss about pretentious lyrics.

And they're such big balls
Dirty big balls
And he's got big balls,
And she's got big balls,
But we've got the biggest balls of them all!

I looked it up on the Internet, and Coverdale is still worth $18 million as of 2017. He now lives in Lake Tahoe, NV.
