Well some of what appears in the Youtube video is stupidity-the rest is the reality of operating big heavy vehicles in unsuitable terrain. The end of the video shows what often happens-a simple recovery with another vehicle. You are generally deliberately bogged/disabled as part of your training and taught recovery techniques....the rest comes from that priceless asset that no amount of money can purchase-good judgement and experience.

And while the video focused on the Russians-EVERY army that uses AFVs has incidents like these-even the israelis, the germans and the US...

In first episode of video tank is Ukrainian, not Russian (see commentaries)

Yeah, I had noticed that. You can also see two of them with Ukrainian Flags.

I tried looking through the thread using various keywords, but couldn't find anything on the subject. In today's San Diego Union-Tribune, there was a photostatic copy of any article from the paper back on May 18th, 1995. At the bottom is a link to that:

That National Guard Armory is only 3 miles from my house, where I've lived since 1984, so I certainly remember the occasion. If you search 'San Diego tank rampage' you can find lots of video and still images.

The article mentions another such 'rampage', in Mannheim:

Body of GI and Tank Recovered

Does anybody remember that second instance, and can they think of any other?

Well, last tuesday there was a joyride in Richmond, Virginia.
No tank though, but an APC.

Well technically it's an ACV-an armoured command vehicle-not an APC...though it does derive from the M113 family...I guess the guy shouldn't have indulged in recreational chemicals whilst on duty....

Ah yes-the 'Chieftain'....he does a lot of good armour and military historical stuff on Youtube.
