I didn't want to come back to this thread.

Cyrille Regis was a superlative player.
He was a mentor.
He was a Gentle Giant of Football.
He was everything I wished would happen in Football.
The perfect striker...the perfect role model...the perfect man.

Cyrille was a Black player. Part of a trio of Black players at West Brom that were called the "Three Degrees" ... after Prince Charles' PR said he liked the pop group of that name - as if the pr@tt had ever heard them

Truly ironic is that the manager that put ...for the first time ever...3 Black players in a starting line-up was chromium-plated, be-jewelled Big Fat Ron.....Atkinson....who was ostracised for off-air comments of racism years later. BUT..he introduced black players...West Ham had one at that time.... no one else had any Black players.
Batson > Cunningham > Regis.

My club...Blues...a local derby forever..had the first set of "supporters" to throw bananas on the pitch at Cyrille..the first to do 'monkey chants'...at Cyrille.
Then Cunningham and Batson joined him and it was un-heard of then...3 Black Players in one team???

Big Fat ...Atkinson brought that about..unfortunately it took so long....and that Cyrille suffered the most abuse everywhere.

He played his legs out, dropping Divisions as he got older...but when he came up against us in Cups etc......he wiped us off the face of the Earth...funny that

Cyrille, as he dropped down leagues, remained fit and active.
He brought kids on..he mentored...he was a True Gentle Giant.

Cyrille played mostly close to home...mostly in the West Midlands..
He NEVER played for Blues but played for everyone else....... the original banana throwers and monkey chanters never saw him play for us.....

I wish to God we had him..... just for a month even....

A lot of Blues' forums have the oldies coming back and saying they're sorry for Regis Abuse.... ha-effing-ha.... few decades too late gobshites....
