The interview was from 1988, and many people have re-quoted it over the years. Quite often Skinner and Baddiel.

Unfortunately Ian did say it.

No he definitely did not say it Meini. Rush completely denies ever saying it. In fact, when asked about the quote by writer Les Scott (and how he had heard it attributed to an interview with Rush in '88 but could find no trace of said interview anywhere) Rush replied it was because he didn't say it. It was definitely a Dalglish wind-up (when asked by a journalist about Rush). Rush did admit though that when he was greeted by many at his arrival in Turin he said to them; "welcome"

Former Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard has retired, ending a 19-year playing career.

Gerrard, 36, played 710 times for the Reds, winning eight major trophies, but joined MLS side LA Galaxy in 2015.

Unfortunately SSN have gone completely OTT and I switched on half way through and with all and sundry talking about him in the past tense I thought he had left us. It was only after the adverts it became clear, to me, he had retired.

I think the problem is that we in England produce so few good players that when a decent one retires they do go overboard. I remember all the gushing about Scholes when he retired the first time. They had people from all around the world praising him and again if you looked quickly you would have thought he had died due to the coverage.

Shows how parochial we are in the UK.
~imo~

Not wanting to tempt fate, but if Zidan or Vigo passed away...they'd have less coverage in the UK, and they were each a notch or two above Stevie and Paul.

I see quite a few footballers are now coming forward about abuse at Crewe Alexandra FC. Everyday there seem to be more and more breaking their silence, breaking anonymity and speaking out. I suspect also there will be a few more victims who were sadly abused during their time there. The club has over the years been known for bringing players through into the top ranks. Some came through their youth ranks and others started elsewhere but learned their trade there. Players included people like David Platt, Geoff Thomas, Robbie Savage, Neil Lennon and Dean Ashton. Now sadly the club is likely to be remembered for the evil that went on there.
