If you want to see what Shirley Eaton looks like today get over to the BBC Iplayer and call up Friday's show to see her.

Dame Judi Dench(M of course) has received the Freedom of the City
of London for her services to acting at a ceremony conducted at the Guildhall. Dame Judi was said to be "honoured" and looked forward to the perks allowed her which in olden days would allow you to drive your sheep over London Bridge and occasionally wear a sword in public. The Freedom is offered by the City of London Corporation to celebrate a significant achievement. And to add a bit more it is looking like her year as Dame Judi has also just been given the highest accolade that the British Film Institute can bestow to an actor-namely she has received the Fellowship of the BFI(not to be confused with the BAFTA Fellowship Award) in recognition of her contribution to cinema and television. She said "For someone who was told in 1959 that they would never make it in the film industry I feel incredibly surprised and privileged to be receiving this fellowship." Altogether now ... "there is nothing like a Dame, nothing in the world, there is nothing you can name that is anything like a Dame!"

Christopher Wood adapted two James Bond novels for the screen: The Spy Who Loved Me 1977 ( with Richard Maibaum) and Moonraker (1979).
He was the first author to write novelizations of Bond films. His novelization of The Spy Who Loved Me, renamed James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me to avoid confusion with Ian Fleming's original novel, has nothing in common with the Fleming book. Similarly, the plot of Moonraker, renamed' James Bond and Moonraker', is almost entirely written by Wood, although it does share some similarities with Fleming's original novel, in particular the villain Sir Hugo Drax. Bond fans generally rate Wood's novelizations highly. This guy is also responsible for the Confessions novels, which went on to spawn the Confessions Movies. He also wrote saucy novels in first person with the non de plume ... Rosie Dixon ! ( try as I may , Ive not been able to find a pic of this interesting (and prolific ) guy ! ) |

On the subject of Bond Girls, a little factoid for you all-did you know that it was Roald Dahl(author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory & other kids books) that came up with the premise of the 3 girls that would be in the Bond films from You Only Live Twice(of which he wrote the screenplay). One would start hating him, and end up loving him, and survive; one would be killed off midway just before he had the chance to follow up any amorous ends and a third would be the bad girl who turned out to be a goodie but would meet a grisly end like Mayday(Grace Jones) for example who saved the Mine from being blown up in 'A View To A Kill' but blew herself up in the process to get back at her ex-lover Max Zorin.

article in tonight's Birmingham Mail newpaper.........
A former Bond villain who became a bham politician has died from cancer aged 56. Talib Hussain, appeared as an assassin in OCTOPUSSY, and chased Indiana Jones along a maze of cart tunnels in Temple of Doom, and also had a minor role in Ghandi. born in Kashmir, emigrated to Bham in his teens. Was a labour mp at first, but defected to LibDems in 2003 over invasion of Iraq. Ended up as both short time independant, then conservative candidate, so you could say he was into politics for reasons other than for any particular party ethics..???

Linda Christian, some considered the first Bond girl, having played Vespa Lynd in 'Casino Royale' on television in 1954, has died at the age of 87. Personally I don't remember her but you can read all about her here.

Incase anyone is interested there is a BBC Proms on BBC4 which tonight features film music from various people like John Williams and Bernard Herrmann but also towards the end has the music of James Bond from John Barry & David Arnold-it will be available on the BBC iplayer for a week so if you're a fan I suggest you try to catch it next week there. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer or look for it sometime on Youtube as someone is bound to have uploaded it by then.

If you want to see Daniel Craig's latest film, I recommend 'Cowboys And Aliens', he plays a cowboy who wakes up with amnesia and a strange metallic bracelet on his wrist...I shall say no more, but go and see it.
