The purpose of my two recent posts was to see if anyone else had memories of the photography shop Stretton Studios in Walsall and Stuart of Stourton in South Staffordshire both in the West Midlands. Because Angela Jones and Monique Devereux appeared quite a lot in Harrison Marks publications and Spick and Span, there are plenty of photos of them out there and on this thread. I can't find any of Denise. The shop had an adjoining space used as a studio and also for some time an additional studio in a nearby separate building. The owner would sell photos of the models to interested young men!
I have reposted two photos of Denise (artistic style) and probably not right for this thread, but I no longer have any of her in underwear etc. Rather improbably, I'm hoping they may jog a few memories. She was at Stretton Studios from around 1961 until the mid seventies. I believe around 10 models were on the books there although there was quite a turnover but the studio business always seemed to be pretty busy both in the afternoons and evenings. I hope this works! http://pimpandhost.com/image/45053947-medium.html http://pimpandhost.com/image/45054568-medium.html Last edited by 1960s models; July 18th, 2015 at 04:58 PM.. |

Thanks for reminding me about the Popular Book Centres, Broxyman. I spent many happy hours in them back in the 80s. The chap in the photo is appropriately dressed I notice and the toilet sign could be useful too...
Is that chain still around? Last edited by Knickers1; July 19th, 2015 at 04:06 AM.. |

That chain's long gone, sadly - the picture shown is quite old, and of the one at 87 Rochester Row London SW1, and it's now a dry cleaner's, which is as appropriate as the toilet sign in the photo!
They were all over London, and as the signs in the window say it was half back credit against the cover price of a 'new' mag. The magazines were stamped on the front by the Popular Book Centre branch, but could be exchanged at any branch. The magazines were in reasonable condition (considering!) but maybe had a few pages missing! Nothing hardcore - just the usual softcore magazines available at the time. Hardcore was available, but only in the seedier shops, and even back in the 70s they cost £20 each (half back on return). I still have some of the pages 'extracted' from the Private, Color Climax etc mags exchanged at these places. They used to get thinner and thinner! |

There are a lot of threads appearing on this website now that are very similar to the Toco one. Vintage Stockings, Vintage Rear View and Vintage See Through spring to mind immediately. They're okay, but I question whether or not they are really needed. The website Vintage Stockings Archive is being plundered by some members just to fill these new threads. What is the point? Anyway, Toco has it all for me.

The point is simple, some members like specific topics, some members like more broad topics within one...... The old saying, You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all the people all the time

I can see Tigertank's point. The same images are simply being bounced around all the different websites. But isn't that all part of the fun?!

websites come and go ,so I feel that images should be spread across different sites ,to help preserve them.

This is my first post on VEF as I only joined yesterday - mainly because of the Spick n Span files. Brings back many great memories. I had a large collection of these fine magazines - but my first wife threw them all out when I was at work once. We are no longer married |
