Default Australia needs new ceilings

I lived in a place once that had a tiger snake in the ceiling.
('Shadrak' we used to call him).. don't remember any mice there, but the sceptic needed pumping out often.. Used to scare the sht out of everyone..

Another old rented place had masonite ceilings with joins between sheets. Looked up once from , where i sat reading in an armchair, to see a huntsman directly above fail to traverse the gap and fell straight on my upturned face.. Good times.

Saw the biggest hunstsbuggermeman spider on the wall outside the garage there.
Maybe a trick of the light (shadows?), but it looked bigger than the profiled bulb above it.

Default dolly

There have been earlier posts in this thread regarding the Australian predilection for sheep:

(not sure if that is a sheep, but). Is it true that sex toys are still the Australian rural sector's major revenue source?

Meanwhile China is also trying to capture the market:

... without using any dogs.

Water, however, seems to be the main industry on the non-West Island. Harvest water, insert into cows (various means), extract watery substance (ditto), dehydrate (meh), export overseas where customers can... add their own water. Luckily, we're now having a drought.

Default drover's wife

Hmm, seeing as the topic of sheep's already been raised: one of the best pieces of Australian literature I've yet encountered was Frank Moorhouse's short story, "The drover's wife". Most of it can be read here (sadly, minus a couple of pp. but you might still get the gist). Murray Bail's (earlier) story of the same title was also good.

I need to go to this Australia place. When is a good time?

My friend Sam who once worked in Oz says I'd love it because I speak Chinese. Pretty much everything Sam says is greatly exaggerated. So I thought I'd ask the experts.

A "good time" by winebeavis definition is when it's not typical tourist season --if one exists and nothing important, like the olympics or something similar, is going on. Is there really a problem with a Chinese influx (defined as however you like) and open hostility? Sam compared it to Mexican immigration in Arizona.

According to Kayak, the airfare prices drop in August.
