Small convoys of partially self-driving lorries will be tried out on major British roads by the end of next year, the government has announced.

A contract has been awarded to the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) to carry out the tests of vehicle "platoons".

Up to three lorries will travel in formation, with acceleration and braking controlled by the lead vehicle.

But the head of the AA said platoons raised safety concerns.

In the platoons, the lead vehicle will be controlled by a human driver and will communicate with the rest of the convoy wirelessly.

The following vehicles will be instructed to accelerate and brake by the lead vehicle, allowing the lorries to drive closer together than they could with human drivers.

My overriding concern is that we've all seen what Daesh "inspired" terrorists have done in the UK and Europe with other automobiles - I shudder to think what they could do with these vehicles...

Two small incidents, almost simultaneously:

1. Brussels 8.15PM, a Somalian attacks 3 soldiers with a knife, shouting 'Allah Akbar' and gets shot dead. Two of the soldiers had light wounds (hands, face)

2. London 8.35 PM, Police at Buckingham Palace arrest a man carrying a knife or a sword, 1 police officer gets lightly wounded during the arrest.

Not sure yet if they are conected, but it is pretty coincidental.

Everything's okay for now.

Just been to a funeral this morning, nice to see human decency still exists as traffic at two large roundabouts stopped to let the cortege go past on the way to the crematorium. Not sure how driver-less cars would simulate what us ordinary folk would do as a matter of basic manners & civility.
