Retro Sweets-the ones you remember from your past
Hiya folks.
This has been touched on before but I thought(and my thanks to Billybunter for the initial spark) why not make a thread where you can reminisce about the sweets, chocolate you used to enjoy as a kid. Perhaps you were a Sherbert Fountain fiend, or loved a tube of Smarties(once in boxes too) OR perhaps you went mad for Aniseed Balls or Chocolate bars like Aztec, Mars or Icebreaker. Have your say here, let us know what YOU remember.

I remember one of the things we always used to get in our Christmas stockings was a selection of sugar mice! Basically, they were just compacted lumps of coloured sugar with a bit of string for the tail, but they still tasted damned good!
Edinburgh rock (the soft stuff) was also enjoyed as a treat, as were "Pomfret cakes" (another name for Pontefract cakes) which were just lumps of liquorice, but nonetheless delicious! Not quite a sweet (so perhaps bending the rules!) but my all-time favourite "sweet treats" were Tunnocks Snowballs. I only found out recently that they're still available (probably half the size of the ones I remember!) so I'm trying to persuade my local corner shop to stock them! |

Marathon became Snickers, Opal Fruits became Starburst-never understood why they needed to change the names. Spangles came back in the late 90s but were never really as good as the originals(the American version Jolly Rancher were awful) and I think Opal Fruits made a very brief one-off comeback too.

Correct me if i'm wrong, was there also a pacer bar? Green and white like the chews. Parma violets just crept into my mind, loved those.

Yes indeed there were green and white Pacers. I don't remember Palma violets but you can still get those online or specialist sweetshops. I used to(had to give them up now) Refreshers and Love Hearts-never bothered with the silly messages I ate them
