We seem to be wandering a long way off topic now. I can transfer this discussion to the Middle East thread if everyone wants to continue with it - just say the word.
Meanwhile, we're meant to be discussing Brexit of course and the consequences of the referendum. Speaking of which, the election of the idiots continues and we are down to five candidates, of whom Boris Johnson is the clear front runner so far. The good news is that the front runner never wins in Tory leadership elections. The bad news is that there's always a first time, and the runner up so far is Jeremy Hunt. Jeremy Hunt is just as odious as Boris Johnson, only quieter. But not quiet enough - I noted that Jeremy Hunt supported and agreed with Donald Trump's cheap and malicious tweet against Mayor Sadiq Khan. We don't need shit-eaters like Jeremy Hunt in responsible positions.

Lemmee see. In three years you've managed to end the careers of two P.M.s, alienate virtually every ally you ever had, and look like a collective of horses asses. Did I miss anything? |

What bothers me the most about is that both the situation and the candidates are being treated as legitimate- very little commentary on context and why this is such a shitshow, apart from Robert Preston who's quite good at calling out the ludicrous. With the candidates it's all slightly different flavours of the same thing; opportunists wanting to strike being PM off the bucket list. The new PM will be effectively powerless with zero room to manoeuvre in EU negotiations, nothing will happen domestically as they'll be leader of a minority government and they're too scared to call a GE because of Corbyn. |

Their rhetoric is the same as are the polices- deportations and xenophobic polices designed to suck up the nationalist vote, lots of flag waving and 'UK first' speeches, the exiting of trade arrangements and international legislation but all contained within a framework of respectability brought about by being the political establishment, the de facto government for nearly 200 years. At least with Trump you know exactly what you're getting. He's oddly democratic in that way. |

They actually had 2 referenda recently and I'm not certain which one of the 2 was the worst . Most people don't get to experience that in a lifetime and for good reason imho.
