The Shorter Oxford merely says 'Clip-joint , slang (combining form), a night club especially, that charges exhorbitant prices.' I imagine it might derive from your wallet being clipped, shaved, cut, having large parts of it removed, etc. if you go in. I generally, but not always, managed to avoid such places in the 70s.

Strippers are alive and well at Sports Nights, usually annual Rugby Club do's. The Eastern Europeans have the market in lap-dancing bars nowadays, but if you want a 'housewife' style stripper, they are on booking agencies books for said 'Rugby Dinners'.
A few years ago, I heard of one such night and the strippers were informed of who the Captain and Vice-Captain were beforehand. Curtains drawn and doors guarded and the strippers got 'dirty' after a hat was passed around.
Of course, the idea is to embarrass the clients enough KNOWING they won't shift from their seats, and thats what happened. The big lads nerve just 'went' when it was 'showtime'. However, a young 17 year old apprentice showed REAL courage and got on the stage and did the pair of them to mass applause. He was all set to have another stab before the gals kicked him off-stage.

I remember the programme 'Stripers' too. I wish I could see it again. The woman dressed as a schoolgirl who bent over and lifted her skirt with a hockey stick was awesome!

For years I've been lokking for a strip scene that was on 'The Bill' and is really racy-you wouldn't see it on tv now! There are some close ups of her boobs and her bum as she strips. I would love to see that again. One of the strippers featured had a routine in a schoolgirl uniform in which she'd appear to pleasure herself with a hockey stick, held in front of her - with the end of the hook up her skirt. She was delightfully bratty and her act was indescribably horny.

I also remember a girl who performed with a snake. She'd suggestively take the head of the snake in her mouth.
