hSorry I've been absent from this thread for a while (and the forum in general)...I had some health problems last April that forced me to re-prioritize my life and it's only now that I have some time for posting on VEF again. I don't know how much I'll be able to post here anymore as making new magazine scans and vidcaps just takes too much time that I just don't have. All the more reason for for some of you to pick up the slack by find some of these back issues yourself, make some good scans and contribute to this thread.

I'm going to try something a little different here.

Long before there were Celebrity Skin mags, black & white newsprint movie and celebrity magazines were everywhere. Publications like Photoplay, Modern Screen, Movie Mirror, Modern Movies, etc., were devoured by the celeb-hungry public (and although obviously targeted at female readers plenty of men bought these mags as well). In the 1970s a new breed of slick, glossy magazines like People pretty much put an end to these pulpy, old-style Hollywood mags which are now both collectors' items and a vivid chronicle of a bygone era.

Here's a few scans from 2 different issues of Movie Mirror, one of the longest running of these old-school publications, including some of the advertising within. Scanning these is a bit tougher than the modern slick-paper mags since most contain only black & white photos printed on cheap, pulpy newsprint pages that were often miscut, resulting in image scans that are usually canted or tilted somewhat. These were often bound in a thick "squarebound" style, with a combination of glue and staples, which makes opening the mags and scanning pages "flat" quite difficult not to mention damaging to the magazine spine (2-page, single image spreads are virtually impossible scan in their entirety).

I don't know how the mods will feel about my inclusion of this material here since it is a bit outside of the thread's specific parameters. I think it's close enough to fit however and I really didn't feel the need to start a new thread, or a series of threads, for each different magazine title. I have a number of these mags that I'll be selling in my E-Bay store and will be making scans of interior pages that interest me prior to putting them up for sale.

If anyone has any comments or opinions about this material, please share it. No requests however since I don't have time to fill them and the magazine selection is already set.
