This is the only place in York I will eat pizza's from. It's run by a couple of lads from Sardinia and the rest of the crew are from Bari in the South of Italy.
They only make Italian pizza.. I've got to admit I'm not a fan of Chicken Tikka Masala/Pineapple/Deepdish and fifteen tons of cheese on top. My favourite is always the one with artichokes and/or spinach with maybe salami or even...anchovies! I love them. Another pizza is the one the Sicilians make, which has a a baked/fried egg in the center and lots of prosciutto. It's like an English breakfast on a massive slice of bread. This place started off like an Italian transport cafe, Italian tv and news on in the background, some of the mates popping in for an espresso and a chat in Italian watching Calcio(Football) on the television. Now it's gone a bit upmarket; they have a drinks licence.

Pizza by Estreeter gif **************************************** History and Origin of Pizza The origin of pizza dates back to 3000 years , from ancient flat breads or cakes prepared on the hot stones. It was a kind of "pizza" consumed in the form of pie or flatbread which were the first types of bread eaten by man, not yet used sourdough . It was only after the discovery of yeast by the Egyptian flat bread made from sourdough were consumed . The word pizza comes from the Latin word " pinsa " which is the past participle of the Latin verb " pinsere ", meaning " spread ." Many civilizations living around the Mediterranean Sea , such as the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used to eat pies or flatbreads made from barley, water and various seasonings seeds. Some of these pies are considered the ancestor of the pizza. In ancient history, there are many recorded for pizza use. In ancient Egypt, seasoned with herbs flatbreads were eaten to celebrate the anniversary of the pharaohs. The seventh century AD, the soldier poet Archilocus considered flat bread kneaded as the typical food of the soldiers. The Greek historian Herotodus sent several Babylonian recipes that were similar to that of pizza. The ancient Greeks were demonstrated broad knowledge of many foods, popular and widespread, can be regarded as the archetype of the pizza. From many historical testimonies provided by the Greek writers , he was only assume that these kinds of pizzas were called " maza " . In ancient Rome, " placenta " and " offa " , the terms used to describe the pizza prepared with water and barley were used as the main source of grain . In the early Middle Ages , the term "pizza" was already widespread ; However, many locally sourced words were used to describe the kinds of pizzas that differ in taste and preparation methods . These " pizzas" were well appreciated by the aristocrats and the people during the Middle Ages as well as during the Renaissance. Through the centuries , the flatbreads were very similar to pizza we have today , the most famous being the mozzarella and tomato , which were the most typical ingredients of the pizza. Two events have played in the introduction of the tomato and mozzarella in Italy. After the fall of the Roman Empire , the invasion of southern Italy by the Lombards ( Germanic tribe ) led to the introduction of buffalo herds in Italy. Then the buffalo milk was used by the local population to produce the " mozzarella " . The import of tomatoes from South (Peru) America and Europe was due to the discovery of the New World (America) . The tomato was used in Italian cuisine , especially in the Neapolitan cuisine , or the famous traditional pizza was born. It was at this time that the pizza found his homeland and its starting point , Naples, for its dissemination throughout the world . The pizza was a favorite of Neapolitan cuisine dishes. Between the XVIII and XIX century , the habit of eating the pizza did not begin in the homes or in the streets, but also where the pizzas were made , pizzerias . During the eighteenth century , the pizzas were baked (built in brick or volcanic rocks ) and sold in the streets of Naples. Boys working in pizzerias ( typical places where the pizzas were cooked ) were pizzas on their head in the typical " stufa " a tin stove that kept the heat pizza. During the day , the boys were walking in the streets of Naples , selling cooked with different seasonings and ingredients pizzas to those they met on the street. This crying at the same time to attract the attention of as many people as possible . Until then , some accessories which included fired furnaces wood, marble benches where pizzas are prepared , display which featured different pizza ingredients , the table where the pizzas were served , the outside counter where cooked pizzas were kept to be sold to passers are still present in all Neapolitan pizzerias and Italian pizzerias "modern" . The first "modern" pizza was made in Naples in 1780 by Pietro Colicchio . He called his pizzeria " Pietro e Basta Cosi ". After more than 200 years, this pizzeria still exists but has been renamed " Old Pizzeria Brandi ." The succession of the pizzeria " Pietro e Basta Cosi " was taken by Enrico Brandi because Pietro Colicchio had no son . In 1889, Raffaele Esposito ( the husband of the daughter of Enrico Brandi ), which was considered the best pizza maker in his time, was invited to the royal palace of Capodimonte ( Naples ) , to make pizzas for the King of Italy Umberto I of Savoy , and his wife , Queen Margherita . King Umberto I and his queen were the guests of Ferdinando of Bourbon , King of Naples. Raffaele Esposito prepared three different pizzas : Mastunicola pizza (cheese , basil and bacon ) , pizza marinara (tomato , cabbage and oregano ) and pizza Mozzarella & Pomodoro ( tomato, cheese and basil ) , whose colors reminded that the flag Italy. The Queen was delighted and appreciated the taste of 3 pizzas to the point of writing thank . Raffaele Espostio , in turn, thanked the queen, giving his name, Margherita, the pizza ' Pomodoro e Mozzarella . The letter of thanks was retained by the pizzeria ' Old Pizzeria Brandi . source http://www.food-info.net/fr/qa/qa-fp55.htm it is interesting to note that if the origin of pizza Contemporary is Naples (Neapolitan pizza) we all have a very personal vision, pizza according to our origins and habits around the world, but we are all virtually unanimous that "his" pizza is a moment of pure pleasure. Conclusion: Estreeter find a topic to get everyone to agree |

I love meaty pizza with stuffed crust.
Papa Murphy's makes a pizza that's like one pizza on top of the other, and then you roll the crusts together. |
