Arrow How to safely sell Adult Magazines on Ebay UK

I thought I would give my selling tips so anyone that wants to sell their surplus magazines on ebay ( UK ) can do so without the high risk of them being removed

( 1) on the ebay listing title just say initially Vintage Mens Magazine -
do NOT state Adult -
in the title or it gets deleted - or attention is brought to it in an unwelcome form , from ebay ( your listing gets taken down )

( 2 ) have the function to sell at a particular date and time , selected
rather than just start the sale at say 1pm , time the sale to start after
2200 hrs - when the Ebay Police are off home - and its quiet
and select 9 days as the period of sale

( 3) the most important thing - post a fully clothed ' boring ' female model
as the item thumbnail picture ( the 1st one selected ) - and don't , for now upload any more pictures from the magazine

( 4 ) Nudity is a no-no , as is ( its daft but its their rules )
covering the nude bits - so when you list the magazine -

( 5 ) once the item has been for sale for a full day -
then add in the Name of the Magazine in the item listing details
but NOT in the item listing title ( to stop the listing attracting attention from ebay )
and add the Model photos ( cropped to avoid nudity ) -

don't !! whatever you do , use ' Microsoft ' paint to cover nudity or
obscure it , dumb as it seems , Ebay doesn't like that - and will delete the listing

and the cropped magazine cover ( if nudity ) in the extra pictures

I have found this method to be fool proof

There was Speurders.nl, that just got erased a month ago, no more adult stuff there, it was a treasure trove for Dutch magazines, erotic comix & Taschenb books..

Some asked hefty prices for anything from 80s, or 70s..
For example a Chick (Dordrecht or Amsterdam/NL) issue 200ish for 10€ ?
Preposterous..

thx

Very timely advice. I've just decided to get rid of my collection and so this will come in handy. Is there any other similar advice for selling DVDs?

The other thing I have is some original 'physical' photo sets (I have a feeling that these are Fiona Cooper but certainly of that ilk). Can you sell these on EBay as well?

I have had a go again at selling excess Men's Magazines on Ebay -
with good prices when sold at auction - however yet again , I have found you need to crop the nude images at the bottom - and have a boring ' header ' of the Magazine title on the front cover first - eg Mayfair - covering up the nudity with a bit of cardboard doesn't work

I tried that and lost all my auctions from being deleted over a few days - so its worth being cautious - I still recommend the auction starting at a late time ( eg 9pm ) as you have more people on or people that spot the auctions - I still think 10 days auction is that way to go .

I also found the 2 keywords that are a no no - are still ' Adult ' but interestingly enough -
Mens or Men's has joined the banned list !!
and raises an instant red flag - where the system refused to start the sale process

as regards Adult DVD's - your best bet would be at Auction Houses that allow this
I would worry that the listing of Adult DVD's would be instantly shot down .

And Ebay is still a lazy company where the Buyer is king

Have recently had a number magazines taken off eBay for not complying with their current policy. Seems you can’t list any now. Has anybody got any advice for the current situation on eBay or even any other sites to list magazines now ?

Unknown...since eBay appears to be violating their own policy, that is if you didn't post any magazines depicting explicit sex acts, i.e. 'hardcore". Here is the current policy word for word...pay special attention to the bolded sections:

"The following items are allowed only under the conditions outlined below:

Adult magazines that contain nudity are allowed only if they don't contain sexual activity and if no images of nudity are showing in the listing

Some examples of this include Bear (magazine), Blue (magazine), Butt (magazine), Gayletter, Mayfair, On Our Backs, Penthouse, Playboy, Playgirl, and Playguy.

This isn't an exhaustive list of magazines we allow. Any adult magazine that doesn't contain sexually explicit content can be listed following the guidelines in this policy."

So by that policy...common sense dictates one can sell 1970s and 80s Gallery, Cavalier, Hustler, Club, Genesis, Adam, Dapper, Caper, etc, etc, etc...in addition to the examples provided above. With that said I've sold many Penthouses on there recently with no problems, and some of those were nowhere near as tame as some titles I just mentioned. Remember, we are dealing with eBay, where common sense and consistency go out the window at a moments notice.

Something really needs to give though, because sellers with these new sites popping up are price gouging in the extreme. I'm talking average prices $25 - $45 PER ISSUE. That's one reason (out of many) why I play "Robin Hood" and post issues here when I can.

With all the hassle Ebay is causing for selling adult magazines i hope sellers will turn to websites like Ebid. The consensus about Ebid is that nothing happens there but if hardy anybody put their magazines for sale it stays that way. Browsing on the U.K. Ebay for magazines has become ridiculous, you can hardly see the cover and gauge it's condition due to censorship by the seller. Some sellers only show the title of the magazine to try advert deletion by Ebay! On the German Ebay it seems nudity is no problem at all but the magazines i mostly look for are English magazines.

the saleroom com - approach an auction house with an internet profile
there are periodic sales on that sale site

I got a few sales a couple of months ago , on Ebay but got a selling strike a month later , so I got the money but a little hassle ( no new sales for 3 days )

my 3 cents worth - for Adult Books and Magazines Ebay is a pale , pale shadow of its former self as a seller mostly due to the lack of sales -
with normal books its even far worse
interestingly - you get really good prices for Model Items ( scale plastic )
#and also aftermarket items - go figure !

Yet again . large amounts of adult magazines ( and others listed as Adult Glamour ! ) which used to be a banned phrase , are being sold on Ebay ( and now there appears to be a little used ' Mens ' section in the item specifics .
Also a few hard-core are being openly sold , with actually nudity inside the extra photos
of the sellers .
I noticed that Beestons Auctions ( they have a website ) have a regular Adult Magazine auction with some good stuff , every month or so , for sale .
The Saleroom.com remains a good source if you are after adult or erotica .
