Unless you're landlord is a network admin or tech the chances are highly unlikely. Someone who knows what they're doing could use a packet sniffer or several other programs to intercept your traffic (I take it your connecting wirelessly) but those apps aren't very easy to use. Much easier to put a keylogger on your machine when you're away. If your really worried about this then just make sure you don't have one of those on your machine and then password protect the machine and you should be good to go.

But the chances of this are pretty slim. Did he offer to let you use his wireless?

Packet sniffers or a traffic intercepting program are not really necessary. If the landlord's internet router contains a firewall in which IP addresses (or address ranges) can be individually blocked it will most likely also provide him with a list of IP addresses that have been accessed from said router.

If your landlord regularly rents rooms out he just might have done his homework and be just savvy enough to avoid any legal entanglements because one of his tenants is sharing copyrighted content.

Safest way is to simply check with your landlord if it is ok to use the wifi and if there are any rules you have to adhere to.
