Existing thumbnails but no big image happened already before attack. At regular check or accidientially by dl file request I noted persistent lack of posted images (big images, thumbnails) at ImageVenue. Seems to be brand of IV to lose stored images at its stormy journey through space and time... But serious:

think most important question is: what to do in general?

To me it's no option to repeat checking all my posts
later: include cross link posts with images
again I did last months and planned to finish next time.

On the other side: at missing dl file user can decide by image(s) to request re-up but at missing image with working dl link?

Don't really know what to do at moment...

Yes, it appears that mods are deleting posts/code with no thumbnails appearing in the post. The problem is that (a) is it now assumed that these images are permanently lost?, and (b) most thumbnails that are available have links that are still missing (I guess the thumbnail is better than nothing?! ).

So, my question is, is it official now that these images are totally gone?

I think Imgvenue are havng a major job rebuilding. We should give them time. For instance, one of my "monitor" tabs was showing the server itself offline, but now it is online tho the image is not yet restored.

Don't go deleting links yet, they may yet come back I think. We should at least not rush to judgement.

I am pleased to see that the majority of images that were 'lost' in cyberspace have reappeared. That also goes for the founders of each thread such as Schreibikus when initially it looked like all his work had disappeared.

From now on I shall not delete images I have cleaned. Normally I do save items that I find useful to paraphrase Ruskin, in triplicate on various storage devices (and even then entropy loves to scupper everything).

So please be patient. I can replace images as mentioned for a certain few select actresses without any problem but in other threads it will take some time for me to redo images ie Catherine Bach as well as enjoying the forthcoming World Cup.

At least it wasn't as bad as first feared. I would love to know what those hackers that perpetrated this get out of it. I do wish they could be brought to book.

As with anything in the world it usually only takes a short time to destroy what has taken a long time to create. Good luck to all posters and fingers crossed this does not happen again.

post can be brought back in case of something such as a mistake?

There are deleted posts but even they are not retained indefinitely. Due to space constraints, I am sure even the trash bins are cleaned out from time to time. However, for public areas of the forums (those that don't require a username and password) The Internet Wayback Machine has archived a good number of posts from this site.

Yes, we have backups that are performed on a regular basis. However, there is no way to extract individual posts from the backup and restore those individually.. that would not help in this case anyway because the images were lost at a provider site and we have no control over that.

This was in reply to the poster saying that mods were deleting his posts
because of missing pics. That being the case, if a post is restored and the
aforementioned missing pics were brought back by that provider, then the
pic should then be available in that post would they not? Since this has
basically just occurred, why would posts be being deleted for that reason
anyways? Know what I mean? Perhaps the posts were deleted for some
reason other than missing pics?

Most likely they were removed for other reasons.... as far as I know nobody on staff has been told to remove posts for missing images yet. The only time we hard delete posts is if it is spam or if a takedown notice has been issued.
