Sydney, as I said it is an italian delicacy. And of course I'm sure a LOT of people just LOVE it. It's just that la cucina italiana loses me on that point.

Brussels sprouts. They taste bad, they smell bad; the Belgians are nice people, it almost makes you want to hate them for inflicting them on the world. And Estreeter, aren't you from the land that gave us this? And please tell me this isn't real.

I know what you`re thinking
How can anything that looks so good taste so wrong Mmmm synthetic salty sausages , chemical enhanced salty mystery ingredient burgers and oddly salty meat substitute balls smothered in baked beans and a salty sugary sauce with a couple of well past their sell by date semi digested mini mushrooms Hey i`m not saying it was inedible. Just maybe i shouldn`t have eaten three cans together As i ended up having to drink a pint of water each hour on the hour for the next two days simply to keep my tongue moist enough to talk

everything is the way to prepare as many things Brussels sprouts should be cooked in water with a little baking soda (which removes the smell and makes them more digestible), then go to the pan with butter, to make lightly browned at servire with preferably white meat (pork, veal or fish) good appetite |

after a survival course when I was in the army, where you are taught to survive by eating what mother nature gives us , (root, insects, worms, slugs etc ...), believe me after that everything seems good but in general the food industry so I find it a big pile of sh** |

Old Mr. Boston lemon-flavored gin. Left a horrible taste in my mouth all day.
Twenty years later, they came out with something just as bad:

Rice pudding. I'm scarred for life by memories of school rice pudding. I went to a primary school (5-9) which had no kitchens. The food was delivered from another school in long aluminium trays, and was always too cold before it ever got to us. The rice pudding was congealed, and looked disturbingly like someone's body fluids as seen in various movies on VEF, or like wall-paper paste. We were issued with a blob of cheap red strawberry jam to accompany this, and the custom among the children was to stir it in, making the result seem even more like medical waste.
The school had some bizarre throwover from WW2 going on. If you did not eat every last little bit of the food on your plate (and you weren't allowed to say you didn't like cabbage, carrots or whatever) then you could not leave the dining hall and play in the fresh air. I spent many dismal lunch hours staring mutinously at an inedible plate of rice pudding until the bell rang for afternoon classes. But if the alternative had been a bullet in the head, I'd have taken the bullet; that's how much I loathed school rice pudding. It's been 40 years, and I've never touched rice pudding. I never shall.

Once at a family party, an uncle came up to me and offered me a drink. I asked for a shot of tequila and a slice of lime. He came back with a glass of something that looked like polluted ocean water. He said there weren't any limes so he gave me the shot in a glass of Slice soda. Slice is one of the worst sodas ever made. It tastes like Mountain Dew after it's passed through the system. Man, it was bad. Fortunately I have a strong constitution, otherwise it might have put me off tequila for good.

Does any members of VEF from other countries regarding school dinners have similar experiences? Members from Italy need not answer. Their dinners by all account's are good.
