What speeds do you get for free-DLs?
What are the best "alternative/second hosts"?
Speeds for free downloads can be dramatically different. I free download regularly from several hosts and get the following speeds/wait-times - at the time of posting. Listed in order of speed: zippyshare - up to 1,1 mbs / no wait time / no wait between DLs putlocker - as above netkups - as above load.to - up to 800 kbs / 10 sec wait time / no wait between DLs DF - up to 150 kbs / 60 sec wait time / at least 1 hour wait between DLs FF - as above netload.in - as above HF - up to 160 kbs / 15 sec wait-time / 30 minutes between DLs share-online - up to 120 kbs / 30-60 sec wait-time / at least 1 hour wait between DLs lumfile - up to 60 bps / 60 sec wait time / at least 1 hour between DLs RG - as above uploaded.net - up to 50 bps / 60 sec wait time / often several hours between DLs What speeds do you get? |

I've had 2 mb/s from Rapidshare , I have a 30 Mb connection which on test really seems to deliver the claimed speeds.

I've seen this type of experiment done on another forum and whats all too apparent is its quite useful but only if people are very specific with stuff like
1.The type of files your likely to be uploading / downloading 2. Your actual geographical location - as filehosts have a bad habit of not performing well everywhere 3.Your ISP - purely for others in the same area to get some useful intel Overall speeds and access varies wildly all across the world and can depend as much on what day what hour as anything else Some countries have phenomenal infrastructure while others lag years behind On an 8mb cable line in Australia via ISP - telstra Rapidshare 100kb-500KB I wouldnt touch either of these 2 below for anything thats likely to receive a DMCA notice Anecdotal comments say 2 notices = closed account Hot files 200-300kb - has a perplexing interface for uploaders when it comes to codes Bitshare 200-300kb - restricts guests to 500Mb & registered users 1Gb a day - possibly per user account or in total - the restrictions as I knew them were per account you were downloading from Mediafire 100-200kb - said to have a similar stance on dmca notices to the above 2 has an authorisation code which pops up every now and then as we speak The reason for it - to stop jdownloader - currently they havent broken it - manual downloading in other words - multi part files = maximum 10-15 downloads a week Depositfiles 100-200KB - 1mb downloaded = 1/2 minute wait till next download inactive files are good for 90 days before you need to worry about re-upping has a captcha for registered users to fill in simply to log in - bizarre - downloaded some large files recently 1GB -1.5gb - 150kb all the way no problems. Currently download a 6 part (5 x 250mb 1 x 189mb - 1.4 gb file from DF download speed 150kb - 40 minute wait between posts I'm yet to have any of my files uploaded to DF( since 7/2012) removed for inactivity or DMCA but thats most likely down to the content being not of interest to the copyright owners presumably. filefactory - 50KB -180kb - waiting times vary depending on volume of traffic - seems very steady Freakshare - 200b-300kb When ever I see the multi-hosts mirror creator or embedupload you know your going to at least have some sort of choice speed wise though links are sometimes all dead - longevity is possibly an issue Looking around at whose using what I'd give 1filchier french filehost a try only thing is like its french counterpart packupload (maximum 400mb file) it does seem to have outages at busy times like weekends. Downloaded a 672 mb file this morning with no issues no captcha 200/300kb Went and tried another file late afternoon - cant connect to host I've come to the conclusion that slow and steady wins the day in this climate so the highest download speed wont always mean the best host to use Infact uploading speed will more than likely be less if the download speeds are excellent Mediafire was always weighted that way Last edited by buttsie; February 25th, 2013 at 05:04 AM.. East coast usa, broadband, 2/24 late EST, in this range [124. 140.] So agrees w/ buttsie also. This much we know for the "civilized" world. Quote:
IF host servers are the parameter, & IF up-loaders give a hoot. then I see a grid of par times for a few popular regions that UL's could consult. Asterisks, etc. as required. You can't cover Antartica & Equitorial Guinea, etc.. Who am I to intrude in debate between sages? Bad habit of mine. Anyway, good to see something from DL POV, not common. |

I'm not knocking the venture Palo just saying the more detail people put into their comments the more useful their likely to be.
As a few of the high volume uploaders have said in filehost threads over the years all the attention is paid to the download speed, waiting times & countdowns. YET little thought is given towards The uploading side, retention of files because their not the ones uploading,re-upping or moving to a new host when the account is closed or files deleted enmass. More thought needs to be given to using a balanced host than the quickest imho Decent speed in uploading / downloading & retention of files - inactivity test If there one lesson many free users could learn its from those uploading to earn Their mostly premium members so they can have access to everything at premium speeds. Kind of sums up this age of sharing - if you aint prepared to pay be prepared to wait If you not prepared to wait go and have a cold shower or put on your sherlock holmes outfit and start searching for alternatives ultramegabit - Currently downloading 464mb file 150kb 52minutes to go Just registered a free user account there - seems to have a limit of 150GB for uploads download hovering around 150kb - its very depositfiles like - very steady - but doesnt appear to have a premium paying level unless I'm blind bitshare 373mb file 270kb after slow start around 100kb after 90 second countdown Last edited by buttsie; February 25th, 2013 at 07:51 AM.. I'm in eastern Canada and I have a 50/30 megabit/sec fibre op connection (@ 6 megabytes down, 3.5 up)
Of the filehosts Palo mentions as well as a few others, here's what I note: Putlocker - 1+ megabytes/sec, no wait time, simultaneous downloads no capcha Depositfiles - 150 kb/sec, 60 sec wait, 30-45 minutes between downloads Capcha code req'd Netload - @ 20 kb/s, capcha req'd, I avoid it Rapidgator - 150 kb/sec, about 15 minute wait, capchar req'd can only download 3 files day regardless os size FileFactory - 150 kb/sec 15-30 min wait between DL's Fly Files (not permitted here) - usually 20 kb/sec. sometimes faster, no capcha, usually no wait time Uploaded.net - 50 kb/sec, capcha req'd, 3 hours between DL's Mediafire - up to 500 kb/sec, no wait between DL's, occasionally requires a capcha Hotfile - 15 sec wait, no capcha, 30 min between DL's, 250 kb/s steady, occadionally up to 350 kb/s I much prefer the 'no capcha' hosts as I can just queue those up in Jdownloader and leave them till they're done.

Blow me down with a feather duster finally rapidgator works even with no script on
- though i had to allow the download page once & captcha page twice In the past that would have prompted a 15 minute wait. RG 153mb file 80-120kb |
