Chris Winchelsea ordered a couple of bottles of a very fine Bordeaux to go with the main course.

My annual lunch with him was on account of my then employer loaning him a car which was on my courtesy fleet. Had to keep me sweet so I would sign off the servicing costs and tyres etc. He was our tame man in the Lords and Vivien Bendall in the Commons. I wangled that for ten years.

The Dover Sole in the Lords dining room was especially good.

I didn't know he was suicidal, but he did drink a lot. Probably because he was given a lot of money, but too little attention, and he didn't have much to do. Many people still think he was actually not a double agent, but a triple agent, and it seems unlikely he was allowed anywhere near Soviet state secrets

I've read he ordered literature from England, but didn't know about cricket scores. It would be very easy to get them this week

I saw cricket in Australia, and wondered that anyone could watch a game that lasted 5 days. But at least they didn't watch golf
