NowhereLand aka Girl Lost
IMDB YouTube Trailer Born into the seedy, underground world of prostitution, 15-year-old Shara has known no other life. Her mother is an aging, career escort, who is now looking to Shara to make the kind of money she made in her youth. After a dramatic encounter with her mom's ex-boyfriend, Shara finds herself alone on the streets of Los Angeles. Struggling to survive, she turns to the only option she believes she has. Well...what can I say...this film is interesting. The acting is good, especially from Jessica Taylor Haid and Robin Bain (who directed the movie) as a daughter and her stupid mother. The mom's a prostitute who thinks her (not so) precious child could take the same path because of easy money... I'm pretty sure that NowhereLand describes a certain kind of the L.A reality. It surely do. It is also too much of a tearjerker sometimes, using some sad music at the right moment with insisting too much on the horrible conditions the 15yo girl name Shara has to endure. NowhereLand ain't no funny movie. It's a harsh one. It wasn't intended to put the viewers in a good mood after watching it. For sure it might contains many cliches but once again, some of them are part of something that truly happens in California today, especially the underage prostitution. Where does the movie flaw ? Well, it's not very well edited. Some scenes are ending abruptely, you can hear from time to time the score being suddenly stopped or faded because another scene is coming on the screen. And it's also an exploitation flick. Robin Bain chose to be crude because the subject isn't for the faint hearted but NowhereLand contains too much of gratuitous nudity. I won't complain since Jessica Taylor Haid looks gorgeous but it's kinda disturbing sometimes. NowhereLand (aka Girl Lost) is the typical B movie which wanna tells more than just a story, which wanna give us a sociological message but cannot resist to some sleazy elements in order to "make some money". But it's never boring, once again the players were good. Nothing new under the sun of "Little girl lost in the wild" genre but it's alright. And some scenes are strong enough to make us think about what can happen and why some girls of the Industry recently chose to take their own life. So yes, it ain't perfect but pretty watchable. I recommend it.

Upgrade
IMDB YouTube Trailer Set in the near-future, technology controls nearly all aspects of life. But when Grey, a self-identified technophobe, has his world turned upside down, his only hope for revenge is an experimental computer chip implant called Stem. Forget about the cool trailers! It was bad! The trailers were full of action, some gory moments and filled with some kind of dark humor. Well, Upgrade lacks in every catagory. The main actor Logan Marshall Green is good, can't deny that, the others are meh. Just doing their job. The story is kinda stupid too. And the dialogues are bad. And there's sooooooooooooo many of them. Plus, the script isn't very original but very predictable. And the ending, which tries to be ballsy, actually sucks. So many movies these days are made from an idea that could give us a nice short film or tv series episode but they're stretched way too long to fit the usual during. And the art direction is debatable. At best it looks like the typical Netflix product. Yes, I've said at best...which gives you an idea of how poor it is. Gosh ! Is it possible to have a good sci-fi/action film these days? Do they still know how to do it? After all, Upgrade is a Blumhouse production. This company sucks and misses almost all of the movies it produces. Can't wait to see what they did the next Halloween episode?

For those who has seen The Meg.
I have been reading on it and the studio made the director cut the theatrical version down from an R rating to a PG-13 rating. Both the director and Statham are not happy with the final cut. All that editing down made the story and pacing very uneven and poor and also since most of the cut scenes involved the shark and bloody violence, one of the main complaints by many movie critics was the movie had too much talking and not enough action and scenes involving the shark. Hopefully we will see the full cut on DVD. |

D.O.A. (1949)
Trailer A man walks into the Los Angeles City Hall to report a murder, namely his own. That man is Frank Bigelow (Edmond O'Brien), an accountant and notary public from Banning, California. While on vacation in San Francisco, the poor bastard gets poisoned during a boozy night in a jazz club. Feeling ill the next morning, Bigelow goes to see a doctor who tells him that he's been poisoned with a "luminous toxin" and that he'll be dead within a week. In disbelief, Bigelow sets out to find out who murdered him and why while he still can. Albeit skillfully directed, the plot felt like something straight out of a bad dime novel, no matter how unusual and innovative it might have been at the time. Much of the acting reminds you of how Hollywood made a farce of an entire profession, still at large. All things considered, D.O.A. will provide you with some quick and painless entertainment but it's far from an essential noir classic. |

No offense to Dane DeHaan only I don't like him as an actor. Not just because he made the Green Goblin gay , although that`s another valid reason
After ,
His girlfriend Beth Slocum (Aubrey Plaza) dies by snake bite. Zach Orfman (Dane DeHaan) is distraught. He can't eat , barely sleeps and resorts to masturbating with her scarf (Butt then who hasn't done that ). He begins to spend more and more time with Beth's parents Maury (John C. Reilly) and Geenie (Molly Shannon) too. Since his own are kind of knobs. Beth`s parents tell them they love him. Then suddenly won't answer his calls or open the door to him anymore. Why Because Beth is back Yep and that`s about as funny as it gets. Since who needs actual jokes right. Let alone maybe a dash of social commentary. Hell let`s not even make it remotely horrific either. Eventually I was actually wishing on a modicum of romance , that`s how desperate I`d become Ho hum. The cast do what they can and the delightful Aubrey Plaza gives a fully committed engaging performance. Only facial expressions and tone alone as good as they are can't compensate for a disappointingly lackluster script resplendent with failed opportunities. A single thumb and it`s lucky to get that

Extinction [2018]
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3201640/
A not-half bad Netflix Alien Invasion movie. Not as good as "War of the Worlds", not as bad as "Battle of Los Angeles". The alien battle bit is reasonably satisfying for the first 40 minutes. The film makers have something bigger on their minds a "twist", not a half bad idea, but not executed well. That's a pity, because there's an idea here, but we've seen this kind of thing go wrong in other movies -- Blade Runner 2049 comes to mind. Deepsepia gives it two Marvins out of five . . . Boar
IMDB YouTube Trailer For sure, Boar wasn't bore! Finally, a funny, gory and entertaining creature feature horror movie! In years! Despite a smilar subject, Boar isn't a remake of 1984 Razorback. Both films are australian and the monster is a giant pig but there's a lot of comedy in this one. And famous aussie actors like John Jarratt, Roger Ward, Chris Heywood, Nathan Jones and the well-known B movie star Bill Moseley from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and The Devils's Rejects is here too. And hotties like Christie-Lee Britten, Simone Buchanan, Melissa Tkautz and Sheridyn Fisher. The monster itself looks great thanks to awesome practical effets. The cgi are a bit cheesy and weak though. But the giant boar is a vicious mofo with an attitude. The gore is cool and never shy, the bodycount quite high and the movie's well shot, using the wide open spaces of Australia in all their magnificent eeriness. The movie has its own flaws. The abundance of charactars is kinda shadowing some of them for a while. The main family almost disappears for more than 30mn from the screen before we hear about them again. But this is for a good cause ! During this half-an-hour, many people are killed by the beast which always fun to watch! It's been a long time since I watched a good monster movie and Boar...is definitely one of them. It's fierce and raunchy and you'll never get bored. I recommend it!
