My number one film would be The Last Wave (1977)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076299/ I bet the majority of the public never heard of this film. A truly forgotten gem. |

Definitely not with James Spader. The "blonde guy" looked much stronger. I guess the movie is not well known unlike Spader's movies. Unfortunately the scene I described is the only one I remember.

Seconds
Seconds__ 1966
A dark, moody little tale that begins with an uncomfortably aging businessman (actor John Randolph) receiving a phone call from a friend he believed to be dead. It brings him to a shadowy company who offer new life and identity, for customers able to pay, and willing to completely abandon their previous existence... 'Seconds'. Seeing escape from a stifling marriage and career, he enters the program. First step is radical plastic surgery that leaves him looking just like Rock Hudson (lucky bastard!). He's then transported from East to West Coast and set up in a beautiful beach house, along with a ready made set of friends & new squeeze Salome Jens (who looks better in B&W IMO). But all is not well, as his dissatisfaction and unease resurface, and he begins to long for closure with the man he used to be... He begins to realize the underlying truth behind the glib saying: "No matter where you go... there you are." Great work by Hudson, & fine supporting cast of character actors. Especially Jeff Corey, as an advance man, Will Geer as a folksy mastermind... and the long lost friend, not so lucky with his makeover, which leaves him looking like Murray Hamilton. Damn! |
