A couple of years ago my wife and I were playing the pokies in Moama, a town on the Victorian NSW border, when the lights on her machine go off. Jackpot flashes, horns toot, buzzers buzz, everyone looks at us and I think 'oh no, how are we going to get a million dollars back home to Melbourne with out being hit over the head with a cosh!'
A 100 fucking bucks.
Do you reckon my wife didn't give the manager both barrels.

Or another way to look at it, is your mum and dad paid a dollar a week for a chance to dream of winning the big one. If it gave them fun, it was money well spent. Where else can you get a week full of excitement for a lousy buck.

Look familiar Well it was either there, the RSL, Bowling Club or Sports Club

We took Mum there last summer for a few night as a getaway after Dad passed away, Mum won something like $1700, she used that the pay for our few nights stay at the club, she refused we pay which was the original intention, Can't disobey Mum.

I'm really decent at useless trivia type of things. 8 years of college will do that to a fellow.
I used to win the classic rock radio lunchtime music trivia contest a day or two after I became eligible again. I suppose that was from 1988-1993, back before smart phones and internet were widely available. Also helped that I had the radio on the same station everyday at the part time job I had and pretty much knew exactly when the contest was going on a could usually time when to call. That helped getting through.

I'm also good for at least placing at the Tuesday night contest one of the local bars, whenever I'm rarely there on a Tuesday night. The prizes for the radio station were usually small things like a gift certificate or if lucky that day concert tickets. The bar is always a gift certificate --for that bar.

I'm not a real big fan of casino gambling. Mrs. Winebeavis's parents live in las vegas so needless to say, I get there more than I'd care to. I prefer the places the locals go to, such as the Stations or the Cannery as opposed to the strip. My game of choice is craps --at the cheap tables. I'll give my self an allowance of something small, like $25, and a strict timeline to play the pass line. My real goal is to drink more in comp drinks than I lose. During the day on the weekdays, it's less crowded and the games have lower minimums. I have come back with more money than I've lost about half the time. Nothing worth mentioning though. Small potatoes for sure.

Gambling and chance really isn't my thing.

I've never actually won any big money prizes but I did come fairly close in 1980. I used to do the football pools and to hit the jackpot, you had to accurately predict eight score draws (or get twenty four points - a score draw being worth three points). Anyway, there were only eight score draws one particular week and I had accurately predicted them all. Trouble is, I didn't have them all on a single line. I had five on the first line and the other three on the second line (I only used to do two lines). Had I had all eight in either the first or second line, I would have won the jackpot which was at that time about £800,000.00 or, in today's money, just over £3.5 million (assuming no one else had twenty four points that week and I'd had to share it with them). I still have the 'stub' (the slip that you copy your predictions onto so you can check the results) now yellow with age as a reminder of how close I came to riches.

I don't know what you mean. I am not a complainer. If you want to read the all time king of the complainers it is our own beloved
