Yes it looks like Somerset are trying to win the championship like they almost did last year by preparing wickets that produce results.
The teams that were not challenging for the championship last year were battling against relegation, such is the points system.
With only 14 games this year it could be a dangerous game as a couple of losses would make you relegation candidates.

Not many wickets at Taunton today. a good win for Essex thanks to Cook. Don't know how many games he will play for them but at the moment Essex are top of the table!

People forget how good a player Cook is. It will be interesting watching him this season without the burden of captaincy.

It will be even more interesting to see how Essex cope without him. He looks to have been the calming influence today at Somerset.

Essex didn't stay top of the table for long....Yorkshire now ahead by 1 point.

Warwickshire look an utter shambles so far this year - their second thrashing in a row. Great bowling again from Ben Coad, who would not have been in our side if any two of Sidebottom, Brooks and Plunkett had been fit and available.

Off next to the soulless concrete in the middle of nowhere Ageas Bowl to play Kolpakshire South on Friday. The Middlesex mafia at the ECB are actually going to allow Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow to play in that one!

I find it very strange that he has not played more, at 23 he is an extremely good man to have around, why not many more games?

Quite simply because of the bowlers ahead of him - Sidebottom, Brooks, Plunkett, Patterson, Bresnan, Willey. Also seems to have matured this year and added a yard of pace. Looks much better than previously seen.

So, in the end, quite a comfortable win for England over Bangladesh in the first ICC-trophy game.

But here's my question for today.

What is the difference between Jade Durnbach (sp!) (Remember him) and Jake Ball ?. Not much since it appears that both go for a small fortune in ODI's.

Sterner tasks ahead methinks. And no guarantee to the semis let alone the final.

A 'No Result' is never a satisfactory outcome in a ODI tournament.

Could even be problematic for England.

Say that both NZ and Australia were to beat Bangladesh, then they are both on 5 points. So England would have to beat both to guarantee progress beyond the group.
