Sorry...
I'm afraid I don't follow.
I'm not very experienced with these kinds of things. Sorry about that. I know you don't have time to hold my hand on this....I appreciate your trying. |

You are using id with browser *pages* (e.g. 10 posts per page). I'm asking for a specific post. For example, go here: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/t95...stockings.html
(NB, see the "p10" in the middle of that above url, just after the bit that reads "t9535", which is that thread's identifying number? Scroll down to the *third* post on that page, which has "#93" in its top-right corner. Click that number with your mouse/pointer, which should open a new browser tab with this url: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/sho...0&postcount=93 which is the *same* as this one because the bit at the end of that url is optional/additional info: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=828320 The number at the end of that (second) url above, 828320, is the unique post identifying number. Those 2 above are *post* urls, pointing to a specific vef post, not a whole set/collection of posts which is what you get from a "page" of posts. The reason I asked you for such is because it's much more specific, narrowing the focus to a post containing -bam image links. Now, do *not* simply try to use id, as you won't get any images from -bam. First use your mouse/pointer to open one of the image links in your browser. E.g. right-click & select the option from the pop-up menu: "open in new tab". That will open a blank window with the text "Continue to your image". Now use your mouse/pointer to click that text, which will take your browser to the image itself. That is what is meant by "manually open one of the images in your browser". By doing all that, and specifically by clicking the text (button, even though it may not look like a button) that says "Continue to your image", your browser has downloaded a cookie file from the -bam site. From now on you should be able to open any -bam imagelinks in your browser and you won't be faced with that text message. Rather, those images will simply open in the browser tab. It also means you can now use id to batch-download -bam imagelinks. So go *back* to the browser tab with that single post showing: http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=828320 and press the id button. I got 48 images downloaded. Several (14) were dead images and so not downloaded--that is, the image originally uploaded to the -bam host no longer exists. That all happens only for a single browser *session*. So it should work for as long as you have your browser open on that day, but if you close it and re-open (e.g. tomorrow), you'll have to do the manual step once more before id can batch-download -bam links. The above also (now) works when you use id on thread pages rather than single posts, but still for only a single browsing session. The cookie from -bam lasts for just one session. How about spending some time learning your way around? There's heaps of excellent resources in vef's help section. |

Wow...
Thank you!
You are correct...there are lots of posts out there. Some of them, honestly, get a little technical and lose me pretty quickly BUT I'm not the only newbie out here....and not the first. So, I need to take some time to read more. I will try what you have detailed for me. HOPEFULLY, that works. If it doesn't....I'll post that. I have read about 1/2 the posts in this thread. Most weren't helpful to me. Not saying they aren't helpful. They probably answer every question I have, but my pea-brain doesn't understand most of it. You know what I'm looking for.....point and shoot. you know.....like a Polaroid. And most everyone who is on this site knows how easy a Polaroid was. But, alas, this is not that. But....I REALLY do appreciate your patience, guidance. I'll try again. Worse comes to worst....I just download what I can....and whine about how the pics I couldn't download are better than the ones I did. It's how I roll. Thank you again. BTW...the "wow" was for all the detail you provided. I wasn't expecting that. |

It's our brains playing tricks on us. We forget all the bits of knowledge that we apply in order to do things. Anything. Polaroid cameras are a metaphor for simplicity but in actuality are examples of forgetting, of turning our prior knowledge from explicit to implicit. If you tried to use Polaroid cameras as a metaphor in the mid-19C you'd have to explain it all to people as they wouldn't understand. And perhaps likewise to people in the mid-21C when people who do know of Polaroids disappear? Another phrase perhaps deserving of some unpicking? Nor I. |

Thank you so so much.
I understand now. I followed your detailed explanation and it all worked fine. You provided me what I needed to know. Awesome. Thank you again. |

I have exactly the same issue as Marcd39 with IMGDING and imagebam links. I followed your instructions to the letter - all quite straightforward - and images do open directly in my browser. However, IMGDING still does not download anything. Works like a charm with other hosting sites so I assume it's something to do with my settings somewhere.

If you have id 41 and it's not working, then please provide at least one vef post url against which I can test/investigate that behaviour. id 41 is available from the Firefox/Mozilla add-ons site. Note that it is there named imgding-m, not imgding, to indicate that it is the maintenance release--I could not use Halvar's original name/over-write/replace it on their site. If you want to manually install id for use with a different browser there is a link earlier in this thread to a file sharing site from where one can download id 41. |

Thanks - there's my answer. I'm running number 37 so will clearly need to update it!
