Wow what a shock. I've loved a lot of Bill's work. Big Love, Apollo 13, Texas Rising (story of Texas Independence), Hatfield's & McCoy's.

Just a great actor and he will be sorely missed.

It seems Paxton suffered a fatal stroke post op after heart surgery. I was enjoying him in Training Day, even if the script was not the best. RIP.

Bill Paxton dying at 61 is truly awful and quite a shock. I remember his comic role in 'True Lies' pretending to be a spy and he was also Jeff Tracy, the father of the Tracy Brothers in the new version of 'Thunderbirds' which whilst visually very good was truly awful. Sad news. I hope he is remembered by the Oscar people in their annual tribute to the lost stars of film & screen tonight.

He was in Dallas the day Kennedy died.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...-person-980177

I was in the crowd in the Hotel Texas parking lot that morning November 22, 1963. I was 8½ years old. I was with my brother Bob. Our dad took us down from the suburbs of Fort Worth to downtown. There was a crowd of about 4,000 to 5,000 people there hoping to catch a glimpse of the president, hear the president speak. The Kennedys were Mr. and Mrs. America; they were movie stars. Seeing John F. Kennedy in the flesh there, he was jocular, with his red hair, he was in top form. There was an excitement in the crowd as we hung on his every word. I even got a bit of a ringside seat because my dad put me up on his shoulders and I must have been about 30 feet in front of the president. It was the best seat in the house, but being there has haunted me and my brother ever since.

Oh my God, this is a real bolt from the blue, and a genuine tragedy. What a fantastic actor - his presence made anything he was in that little bit better. Of all the movies that have been mentioned in the obits, I've a particular soft spot for his hilarious turn as Chet, the bullying macho asshole older brother in Weird Science. Comedy gold. I think I'll be watching a double bill of that and of course Aliens tonight by way of tribute.

RIP William "Bill" Paxton, 1955 – 2017

Default Wales Women rugby player killed in crash

A woman who died in a crash in Neath Port Talbot has been named as Wales rugby international Elli Norkett. Miss Norkett, 20, from Llandarcy, Neath, had been the youngest player in the 2014 Rugby World Cup. She died in a two-car collision on the A4109 Inter Valley Road, between Banwen and Glynneath, at about 19:40 GMT on Saturday. The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) said it was "deeply saddened to hear the tragic news". Miss Norkett was in her final year of a sport development degree at Cardiff Metropolitan University and planned to pursue a career in rugby coaching. Her family described her as "kind-hearted and caring". In a statement, they said: "She was the youngest player in the Rugby World Cup and had gained four Welsh senior caps at the age of 17. "Elli also represented Wales at Sevens and was selected for the Great Britain Students Sevens. "On the club front she was proud to represent Swansea Ladies and the Ospreys. "Elli was loved and valued by many and has touched the hearts of all her family and friends due to her kind nature and endearing personality."

A spokesman for the WRU said: "A talented, dedicated player and popular teammate, Elli was a treasured member of the Welsh rugby family. "Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time." A statement from the Ospreys said Miss Norkett had "her whole life in front of her". "Not only was she a talented rugby player she was a good human being, probably the most important thing about her," a spokesman said. "As an Ospreys in the Community coach, she was an inspiration to boys and girls of all ages who enjoyed being instructed by an Osprey and a Welsh international." South Wales Police is continuing to investigate the collision, which involved Miss Norkett's silver Toyota Yaris and a silver Vauxhall Insignia. A 42-year-old woman and her 12-year-old passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash.

Default Labour MP Gerald Kaufman dies at 86

Sir Gerald Kaufman, Labour MP for Manchester Gorton and Father of The House of Commons, has died aged 86.

A family spokesman made the announcement late on Sunday night.

Sir Gerald had been an MP in the North West since 1970 and became the oldest serving member of the Commons in 2015.

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn led tributes, calling him an "iconic and irascible figure". Former leader Ed Miliband said he was "an outstanding servant of the Labour movement".

Mr Miliband added: "His principles, values and friendship will be sorely missed."

Sir Gerald was a junior minister between 1974 and 1979, and held a number of senior shadow cabinet posts through the 1980s.

He famously called the Labour Party's left-wing 1983 election manifesto "the longest suicide note in history" and returned to the backbenches in the early 1990s.
