Although he was just 4'10", Suleymanoglu was considered among the greatest weightlifters of all time.

I remember seeing this guy in the Olympics some years ago. After his winning lift the commentator said that to put it into perspective it was like lifting a bar with Frank Bruno sat at either end. Phenomenal.

So sad about Jana Novotna too.

So he would have had you believe - to excuse his behaviour - but it has been strongly refuted by people who knew him in his youth. His mum did a stretch but he was placed in the care of loving rellies and was well looked after. Many say he was just totally self-obsessed from the word go and would manipulate any person or situation to his advantage without conscience.

The guy who wrote his biography says he was always resolutely against the death penalty, believing that any person could find redemption. But even he is adamant that this did not apply to Manson who was, in his view, pure evil and should have been executed. Manson continued to pose a risk even behind bars because he could still manipulate gullible half-wits into doing his disgusting acts for him.

The world is a better place without that piece of scum.

Certainly the world is cleaner with no Charles Manson in it. However, I am rather pleased that he was not executed, and was instead forced to rot for nearly 50 years with no prospect of ever being released. My only regret is that not nearly enough care and skill was deployed towards making his existence totally and utterly unbearable, to make sure he would spend those years ardently wishing that he had been hanged. I would have kept him like Rudolf Hess, deprived of any form of human contact; no books, no TV, no radio, no newspapers; no stimulation of any kind. Just himself and an empty cell with no windows and lights on 24 hours a day. In this way I would have made sure his punishment was bad enough to be worthy of his appalling crimes.

I trust his mortal remains will receive no ceremony and will be disposed of as clinical waste should be.

Probably the case as he has no family and nobody with any legal basis to claim the body.. it'll be up to the State of California to dispose of him.
