"Populism" is about normal, ordinary, intelligent folk finally finding a way to give deserving politicians a good kick in the cobblers.

Eric Blair aka George Orwell in one of his wonderful essays along with many futurists and scientists have argued for a technocracy. Experts appointed to fields on the basis not of political dogma but what is best for everyone in terms of improving technology, infrastructure and peoples lives as a result on the basis of the latest trends and information gleaned from science.

At present we get dogmatic fights about health and education for instance. For a few years we go one way and then another. No one for instance in the health department has been looking at modular hospitals built to a circular design and with integrated information networks and a design that allows easy movement of equipment or involving future trends in AI, miniaturized scanners and the like.

And the calibre of the people occupying the places of power be it in the Houses of Parliament to your local district council is far from ideal. Indeed when I see the councillors we have in Watford for instance one despairs. These people would struggle to find work in the real world. They are hooked on political thought and have no idea about working for the future. Instead they seem more concerned about their expenses, buying votes and getting their nearest and dearest to join them in the local halls of power.

One could also go the extreme of a benign dictator who has a brain. I remember well the rule of Valentinian in the midst of a crumbling Western Roman Empire who made numerous reforms and forced them through with his own titanic will. Made accomodations for the people under his rule, swept away a great deal of corruption, a bloated legal system and reorganized his military. Not a mean achievement by any means.

What you've been hearing recently about Russia is gross misrepresentation. It has to do with a Russian law that forbids publicizing non-traditional sex practices to minors, and I agree with it 100%

For your information, the law does not mention homosexuality. And you can be as gay as you want in Russia, because there's no law against it. But don't propagandize it to minors, or you're asking for trouble

Homosexuality was taxed as a "mental illness" in Russia until 1999.

In a survey of the Russian society 34% of the asked citizens held it for a mental illness , 23% held it for the result of a bad upbringing , 17% for the result of a seduction. 5% wanted a "physical obliteration".

Only 16% of the asked persons was the opinion, that Homosexuality is equal with Heterosexuality.

In an other survey the same year of the Lewada - Centre 51% of the Russian society welcomed a criminal prosecution or a healing "under arrest" for Homosexuals, 3/4 of the asked society were for a ban of any public statements.

Only 1/4 said: leave them alone.

89 % of the asked citizens said, that they are not knowing any homosexuals. :LOL:
(Strange, because the Russian men are kissing themselves on the mouth as a welcoming, if they are knowing each other).

I personally have never ever been in danger of any homosexual activities, but I know about a dozen who are homosexual (Fem. and Masc.)
One of them I could slain with a wet towel (if you know what I mean) after time of 5 minutes, but this is a exception, the other I tax as quite "normal".

That was the same group of asked people, having dozens of prejudices, but not knowing any homosexual persons personally.

Excellent stuff. I couldn't agree more that the Internet is a breeding ground for mis-information. This is hardly new. Governments are are actually guilty of intentionally misleading the public when they feel its necessary and if they can get away with it. Starting wars where a lot of innocent people are killed comes to mind, with (relatively recent) truly deceiptful claims that WMDs were being prepared and the sky is about to fall. In truth, the hidden agenda in this instance was very different. But that's all besides the point.

Like you, I certainly want the authorities in general to deal with the facts and I don't think its asking too much for them to clarify certain matters on occasion in a genuinely honest manner. If they can't do this, we really are in trouble and false information simply continues to gain momentum.

Look, I'm really not that naive to believe that our US friends live in a democracy.

You say that the youth should be protected from "fringe sexual practices" as if gay men walk around naked and have sex in supermarkets. What exactly does this protection look like? Are feature films on television censored if they show a gay couple kissing? That law sounds exactly like the moral codes that were abolished by the Bolsheviks. It sounds like it was written by the Church.

I just don't understand how this "protection" is going to work. It also sounds ridiculous. But all things considered, homosexuals in Russia are not in a position where they have to fear for their well-being.

I heard in the radio this afternoon, that Germany has signed at UN a contract, that hindered school kids can follow the lessons at normal schools. The magic word they used is "inclusion".
Those students usually had been here at special needs schools.

But like always: nobody as thought about the implementation.

And I think that's anything else as easy:
I can suggest this for example wheelchair users, partially sighted students, partially deaf persons ect.. That's not easy but still solvable, I think.

Hyper active school-kids one can catch from time to time.

But what's about blind students, deaf students or better mentally ill students as displaying behavioral problems students, for example students with a Tourette Syndrome, or having themselves not under control?

Background:
A female friend of mine is working at such a special needs school. The stories she's telling me are sometimes seeming to be funny, as the students with a Tourette Syndrome screaming every three minutes words like "whore", "cunt", "bitch", "ass-hole" or something like that and mentally ill student was happily masturbating during the lesson.
I been laughing so hard she was telling me/us those stories, that I was sliding under my chair. Some minutes later of reflecting this, I had to admit that it is anything else than funny.

I think that would be more than disturbing at "normal schools", wouldn't it ?
