I just thought I'd better mention this, with reference to WinAvi video converter.
The current version is WinAvi 8.0 - downloadable from the official site [link provided by DubSalute]. There is an unofficial 'version 9.0' which is downloadable from certain w4rez sites. Apparently this 'version 9.0' is just version 8.0 with a red 'skin' instead of blue, and is reported to contain 'malware' which slows down your PC. I don't know how true this is, but it's probably best avoided to be on the safe side. Last edited by dshell; March 16th, 2008 at 03:16 PM.. |

About the choice of DVD type that depends on what DVD player you have and what you want. DVD+RW and DVD-RW are rewritable, you can write on them and then erase and write again on them, they are not realy suited for standalone players, many will not play them, but usefull to experiment cause you can erase and re-use them again, so for experimenting i say try RW, you can check your efforts by playing them on your computer. Best to use for actualy burning them are DVD-R/DVD+R's they are also cheaper, you can only write once on those and when you burned them they are fixed and can no longer be erased and burned again. About the + or - format that depends on your DVD writer note that also not all DVD writers are DVD rewriters. You can always use the DVD-R to burn when it is a DVD rewriter you can also use DVD-RW on others you can also use the DVD+R and DVD+RW. If its easy to convert avi to DVD i don't know, don't look to hard but i myself don't do it as i have no standalone DVD player so i store all as data to discs, can't advice you there. Found this bit outdated tutorial on how to use Winavi that might get you on your way: http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/58/59/ Just try and experiment with burning using the DVD RW media then you can retry when needed. Succes, Dub. |

Ulead Video Studio, AVS Video Converter
I have used the Ulead Video Studio for years, I have been making my own videos for a long time. It's not the best program, but it is quite reliable and offers the option of assembling and burning DVDs within the studio.
The AVS Video Converter can copy most MPG and AVI formats to what it calls "DVD PAL compatible (MPEG2, 4000 kbs, 25 fps, 720x576)" format. These files burn nicely onto DVDs with software like Nero or WinOnCD. AVS can even copy the content of a copy-protected DVD in the DVD Pal-compatible format onto your hard disk... Greetz, vampi |

Sorry, Phikel, I haven't checked this thread for a while, so didn't see your request for the WINAVI site. (Thanks to DubSalute for providing it).
You can also use VirtualDub, but you need to know what you're doing. Also, it won't make DVDs, but great AVÍs. It's a great encoder, and there's a version that will encode MPEGs (all to AVI). I have gotten great results from it. You can download it free from www.virtualdub.org. Last edited by barryjoel; March 20th, 2008 at 07:32 AM.. |
