More information is necessary, but I'll take some guesses.
If you are putting the drive into the same USB ports you did before and it worked properly then, but it's slower, it's probably the device. Try a second device in the same ports and see if the problem is replicated. If all other drives in that port are slow, it's a port problem. This is not the usual suspect, but does happen, especially if it's a port connected by jumper wire from the motherboard. If you experienced your slowdown on a different port, not all ports are equal. Those ports directly connected to the motherboard tend to work best. Those ports connected from a jumper wire from the motherboard to the the front or rear of the case sometimes have problems due to power loss (crappy cables) power or possible bad connection. Check the jumper wire and make sure it's seated all the way down on the pin headers on the motherboard and on the case. If the drive is old, it might be wearing out. I had this just a few months back. The drive just was slooooow. Then it died totally. Old troubleshooting tip: If two devices (at least one of which you know works properly) don't work on the same connection, it's the connection, not the device. If the suspected device works just fine in another computer that you know works properly, it's the connection on the other computer. If the device has the same problem on two (or more) computers, it's the device. I'd suspect the device first, then work back from there. Hope that helps. |

Reinstall USB drivers. I had a USB 3 device where drivers got deleted somehow, reinstalling gave it back the speed. Its a Sandisk Extreme which I bought because it was top of the pack in a 21 USB device comparison. You should only buy a USB 3 device if you have seen the speed it is capable of because some are worse than USB 2 devices.
