What if you lived in Australia, in the early Eighties?
Grab a slab (mandatory) and come with me, as we travel from Melbourne to the Outback in under 4 minutes, accompanied by the Hunna's.
The Dance steps are also mandatory although you may choose to stand at the bar and laugh, as did i. Possibly at your own peril I never met a 'sharpie' But then all my friends were arty (farty?) types, which the Hunna's were also, so there may be an element of social commentry/satire/black humour to this rare clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbAxf...feature=artist It's okay to be afraid and of course it's not all like this. |

Australians are clever, yes seriously
They ingeniously market their country, and it is mysteriously effective. Believe me, it is
When I ask students what place in the world they would most like to visit, where they have not been before, possibly 60% say Australia. It could be more And when I ask what they would like to see and do in Australia, nearly all say they must visit Ayer's Rock, which is this place here - almost everyone in the world who knows Australia exists, has seen this picture (or something similar) Then you ask, "Do you know where it is?" And most think it is close to Sydney or Brisbane. But actually, it is here, about 500 death-marches away from almost anywhere And when you change subject, they still want to go This is masterly by the Australians |

Many years ago I was fortunate enough too have seen that sight when myself and mates were in our early 20's and we set off on a trip from our hometown for a 3 week journey. Never had I experienced before and since a lightning and thunder show like that early evening Here's a song that describes that scene tmee2000 posted Raining On The Rock Pastel red to burgundy and spinifex to gold, We've just come out of the Mulga where the plains forever roll. And Albert Namatjira has painted all the scenes, And a shower has changed the lustre of his land. And it's raining on the Rock, In a beautiful country, And I'm proud to travel this big land, Like an Aborigine. And it's raining on the Rock What an almighty sight to see, And I'm wishing on a postcard that you were here with me. Everlasting daisies and a beautiful desert rose Where does their beauty come from heaven knows. I could ask the wedge-tail but he's away too high, I wonder if he understands it's wonderful to fly. And it's raining on the Rock, In a beautiful country, And I'm proud to travel this big land, Like an Aborigine. And it's raining on the Rock What an almighty sight to see, And I'm wishing on a postcard that you were here with me. It cannot be described with a picture, The mesmerising colours of the Olgas. Or the grandeur of the Rock Uluru has power! And it's raining on the Rock, In a beautiful country, And I'm proud to travel this big land, Like an Aborigine. And it's raining on the Rock What an almighty sight to see, And I'm wishing on a postcard that you were here with me.

What Estreeter said
Excessive rain is not always delightful. But drought can be much worse |
