Default without coke...

Once I used to work as a bartender in a popular cocktailbar in my hometown.
One night a lady came up to the bar:
"I'd like to have a Pina Colada, but please without Cola!"
Pretty surprised I answered: "Excuse me Mam, but we never do a Pina Colada with Coke.
Why do you think we add Coke to the drink? - that's awful", I said to her.
"Yeah, but it says so in the menu", she replied.
"What? That can't be! Could you please show me?"
(I really thought she is taking the piss!)...
So she grapped the next cocktailmenu on the bartop and pointed out on the Cocktails name:
"You see, it already says so in the name of the Cocktail - Pina COLAda!"

...

(For those of you, that are not so familiar with cocktails, Pina Cola is a very, very famous tropical cocktail and contains Rum, pineapple juice, cream of coconut and cream.)

Default TV news mistake 7/12/13

Earlier today it was announced that Asiana Airlines to take legal action against news station KTVU-TV in San Francisco. On Friday American Live Wire covered the news gaff that shocked and entertained many viewers. News Channel KTVU had reported on live TV that they had obtained the names of the four pilots from the downed Asiana Flight 214. What makes it worse is that they claimed that the list of names was verified with the NTSB.

Asiana Airlines To Take Legal Action Against News Station

The names were reported on air, and not immediately recognized as a prank until they were read out loud and shown on the screen. The ficticious names were as follows:

1. Captain Sum Ting Wong

2. Wi Tu Lo

3. Ho Lee Fuk

4. Bang Ding Ow

Ah, the wonderful, objective media.
So easy to play because they either want to believe what they are told as it fits their agenda, or because their towering ignorance is not balanced by fact checking sources.

Those actually were the names given KTVU by the NTSB. Well, at least by the summer intern at the NTSB who disobeyed direct orders to route all media information requests to the media reps.

The first story about confusing people by giving them more change to get 1 coin back instead of 3 or 4 reminds me of the times when I would pay a little extra and confuse the poor idiot so much that they would give me back more than they should have.

I used to work at 911 in Toronto. We would constantly tell people that we wouldn't send the Fire Department to get cats out of trees, because they'll eventually come down themselves. (There was a comedian who used to ask - "Have you ever seen a dead cat in a tree?"). One day we got a call from a genius who asked for the Fire Dept. to get his pet bird out of a tree. He had let it out of a cage and forgot to close the window. Obviously, we refused - don't you think it would fly away from a big bulky fireman? He told us it wouldn't fly away because it loves him (which doesn't explain why it flew away from him in the first place). We told him he'd have to get it himself, as we had to answer calls for life-threatening emergencies. The calltaker then notified everyone on duty of this call using the internal messaging system so we could all have a laugh.
A few minutes later we got a call from the bird man requesting help to get himself out of a tree. (A fellow 911er sent an internal message to every work station stating that they had just gotten a call for police assistance from a parrot that was stuck in a tree being harassed by its clingy owner).
About ten minutes later the Fire Dept. requested police presence for crowd control because so many people had gathered to watch the rescue.
And the bird didn't fly away.
