Hi. I'm Penelope the Porcupine with my lovely daughter Priscilla. Porcupines make up two different families. The Old World Porcupines that live in western Europe, Asia and most of Africa. They are very large and mostly nocturnal. The New World Porcupines live in North and South America. We are smaller, less nocturnal and live in the woods and can climb trees. There are things about us that most people have either misconceptions about or just don't know. When babies are born like my daughter they already have quills, although they are softer, but just a few days after birth they start to get hard and sharp. When a predator approaches I turn my back to it and if it touches me I start to shake my tail and if the quills touch the snout of the predator they loosen and stick into the predator. Porcupines can't throw their quills which was what most people and scientists thought for many decades. Also I can stiffen my back and a white streak appears running down the center of my back and predators mistake me for a skunk. I also have glands that secrete a smell, but it is more like very bad human body odor. The one fascinating thing about porcupines is that we are the only animal in the world that has anti-biotics in our skin. Porcupines often climb certain trees that have berries near the leaves, but because we weigh a lot we often fall off the trees and hitting the ground can cause our quills to stick into our skin. Specialized cells in the skin then release antibiotics that prevent the wound from becoming infected. To be a Porcupine is to have a great and happy life!

I may look stupid , but I won the national and world contract bridge championship. I did it by cheating all the way. In contract bridge there are preliminary rounds, quarterfinals, semifinals and then a series of championship rounds. I won by taping to my body 5 entire decks of marked playing cards, and as the games progressed would switch my marked cards for the real cards. I'm so evil, but I have won championships all over the world. Officials are just so dumb!
