When did you first notice the top shelf ?

I must have been 6 or 7, my mum used to take me and my sis to this newagents to buy sweets and comics....whenever my mum wasn't looking i would look up at the top shelf and wished i could have a look at the Mayfairs, Club Internationals and Men Only's on display.

One day i got lucky.....a bloke was reading one and as i walked passed him i saw a picture of woman holding her tits and showing her hairy pussy

a moment i have never forgot!

I am surprised a man would be that daring to read or look at that in a shop-I remember first being aware of them at 10 but wasn't that interested until a friend of mine showed me(much later on) a copy of KNAVE but I found the open-vagina shots too much (and still do) I prefer the less sleazy pics. I also remember being on holiday and seeing P-Boy and daring to check the pages-then I was 13

Top shelf- middle shelf - bottom shelf... the corner newstand had a section devoted to adult magazines... my eyes began to wander around age 11... I used to pray for my mom to get stuck in the intersection, waiting for the light to change, so I would have a few precious moments to gaze at the covers...

I was really young when I first started looking at the top shelf, no more than 8 years old. Not sure if it was the first one that I saw, but I distinctly remember seeing one magazine - probably one of the cheaper ones like Escort, Razzle or Fiesta - with a light blue background, and a virtually naked girl leaning over with her bum to the camera and a profile shot of her boobs. Fantastic!

From that day on I always knew the names of the main titles, took a look every time I could and imagined one day buying them.

I only ever saw one other guy browsing through a mag, though all I saw was disappointing. Pretty sure it was a title like New Talent, and the only page I saw had a girl lying on a bed with lingerie on, so her open legs revealed only a covered snatch.

Once I'd started buying mags I would almost always have a quick flick through. At first, especially when buying new titles, this was just to make sure that the mags I was buying had what I wanted in them (didn't want to get an all letters mag by mistake or something). Never standing and reading or anything, usually just a quick glimpse at the contents page and the first couple of girls.

These days though I know what titles I want and just grab them and pay.

I can't remember when I first noticed the top shelf, but I do remember that on windy days at our local newsagents, half the mags would blow open whenever the door was opened. My mate and me used to hang around pretending to look at Smash Hits and Shoot! and get a sneaky look at the nudey pics every time someone opened the door

When I was about 11 or 12 I can some remember people complained that the girlie mags in our local newsagent were on the lower shelves and visible to the like of me.. Then one dark day they were moved to the top shelves. Even when I bought my first Men Only, 1980ish, it wasn't on the top shelf..

When I was around 8 my father had a penthouse sitting next to his chair...I hadn't looked at the cover, just picked it up and started reading it thinking it was one of my dad's business magazines (I wanted to look grown up). My father saw what I was doing and said "Don't read that! You can look at the pictures of the naked women, but don't read it!"

Boy was I a stupid kid.
