I've just been talking with a member of my family in Toronto before coming onto VEF. The suspect is apparently an immigrant from a former part of the Soviet Union. He has killed 9-10 and the police are saying they expect this to rise by another 5. There are quite a few very serious injuries. Apparently when the police stopped him he wanted them to shoot him.

Many reports say it happened in Downtown Toronto, but it was a few kilometers north of the city.

It seems he is probably another follower of the religion of peace!

I have to say it, Comrade Palo: these varied versions to which you allude are in your own head, not in the British media. What I myself have seen reported is:

• Three victims (dont forget the policeman) gravely ill, two in comas and unlikely to survive. Incidentally, there is no antidote for Novichok, so the only hope is to keep the victim alive in an ICU until their system metabolises the poison and their respiratory system can work again. So there is nothing improbable about the time they spent in intensive care and "They're going to die...now they're not" is just a deflection, trying to make real life seem untrue.
• There was no report of a woman spraying the poison. You may be confused with the murder of Fat Boy Slim's cousin from North Korea.
• I have seen no report concerning the auto exhaust, and of course I follow the BBC news. Indeed, if this had been the means, I would expect there to be many incidental casualties, and frankly we would be confronting an act of war.
• What was reported was the uncertainty on exactly where and how the poison was administered. It was after weeks of investigation that the doorknob was identified, and even then only as the likeliest source, due to the concentration level.

So you see, it is quite easy to misrepresent reality and profitable to do so it you have something to hide and would prefer to discredit the accuser than to address facts. We are getting a lot of that from Russia and from her sympathisers; but the law of diminishing returns applies to the internet as well as anything else in life, and Russia is finding that out too.
