I have enjoyed her works for many years... she will be missed.

Damn, this has come as a shock to me. I knew Mark briefly back in the late 70s and was and remained a huge fan of The Fall from the very first. One of the best, tightest bands I've ever seen. I sat in on pre-gig soundchecks a couple of times in the late 70s and their sound checks/rehearsals were effectively complete utterly tight gig performances.

On form The Fall were stunning and Mark's personal vision was extraordinary, with influences from history, occultism, horror fiction particularly the incorporation of West Manchester into HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, all kind of popular music from 50s rockabilly through 60s 'Pebbles' type psychedelia, Northern Soul, mainstream pop and of course Punk Rock, both the 60s US and 70s UK versions, all mixed with his own unique perceptions We shared a love of Johnny Cash and of the music and shenanigans of The Residents.

I'm sorry he didn't find time to publish a few novels but then again he put so much of his literary inventiveness into his extraordinary lyrics

Lots of people will have no idea who he was, lots of others will miss him very much. Count me amongst the latter.

I will share with you all a Mark E. Smith story from many years back. At a certain Midlands town I was waiting to see the aforementioned Mr. Smith when two friends came in to our place of entertainment. On the way to the gig they had found Mr. Smith lying in the gutter absolutely out of his skull. They picked him up and frog-marched to the venue, when there having a job to convince the bouncer that he was the lead signer for the band, but eventually the promotor verified that it was Mr. Smith and took him in. We were not expecting the greatest of gigs but just about a hour and half later he delivered a storming set.......Rock legend but perhaps not the best lifestyle guru!

For those who wonder who and what Dr. Shipherd and I are referring to...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn0N29UVjtk

The first group show is the one Dr. Dan was involved with for pretty much his entire adult life.

These are NOT school organizations...they're independent youth groups with members drawn from all over the world.

You're looking at the end result of over half a million man-hours of work for each show by the end of the season.

Very shocked and saddened to learn that the 80s pop star Paul Young lost his wife Stacey after a two year battle against brain cancer. Tragic news for a great bloke.

Legendary Cartoonist Mort Walker aka the father of Beetle Bailey and Hi and Lois has passed away at 94.

The world has lost one of it's funniest people.
