A few months ago, I saw a book of erotic drawings displayed in a bookstore and, for the life of me, I cannot remember who the artist was. When I had time to go back and buy it, the last copy was gone and none of the employees that I've described it to, have been able to help identify it. (I suspect it was remaindered.)
Here's what I can remember:
- It was a monograph published sometime in the past 10 years
- The artwork seems to have all been pencil drawings, a bit like John Willie's "Bizarre" stuff, but less fetishy and more informal -- almost documentary -- illustrations of couples fucking under the bleachers; that kind of thing. I could totally see them being used as incidental illustrations in girlie mags of the '50s and '60s.
- IIRC, the artist's last name may have been German, beginning with "von..."
- OTOH, I'm pretty certain he was American, or at least lived and worked in the US.
- I believe he was most active between the end of WWII and the late-1960s.
- The cover played up the "rediscovered master of erotic art" angle, which probably means they were a minor artist that someone bought the estate of, and they are trying to capitalize on. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Taschen book.
Does this ring a bell for anyone?
