Chaps, I'm beginning to regret selling off my Toco magazines. Several years ago, I converted my entire collection to digital. At the time it seemed like the sensible thing to do and, I sold the magazines for a good price - brilliant... Unfortunately, I've noticed that a lot of my digital images are disappearing or are no longer opening up. I backed up all the files, but even they have deteriorated. I'm finding now that I'm having to scan through the back pages of this thread to retrieve lost images. Who would have believed it?! Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

I read about a professional photographer who refused to go digital. "My negatives will last at least a century if well cared for. Can you say the same for digital files?"

I have clunky discs the size of a medium pizza that are inoperable; I have a lot of old 1.44 Mb discs, my old Zip discs went a long time ago. I had to hunt to find a good CD reader. A couple of USB sticks have failed. Ditto one hard drive (left behind by the 'march of time'). I am beginning to see what that photographer meant. I understand the B.B.C. has lots of material in formats that are no longer supported by hardware.

Paper is not immune either. A long ago friend had a large important collection of comics that were too fragile to open due to acid in the paper making process; they were not meant to last. Fire got them in the end.

My memory is not what it was either ...

Ros Stuart is another Toco classic. There are those girls who transcend their eras and Ros is one of them. Perhaps not the prettiest of the Bearsden belles, but certainly one of the most alluring.
