Catherine The Great
A fabulous book full of plotting, cuckolds, lovers, illegitimate children, spoiled monarchs,& of course political intrigue. I'm finding it fascinating. recommended reading for anyone interested in European history, well written & researched. Five Stars.

I re-read it every 12-18 months.
I have one close friend who has about a dozen or more copies of this, most in French, unfortunately for me. But, as a new translation pops up, he gets me a copy. It is always actively in print, re-prints even. The original "Rites of Passage" blueprint. Wiki: Quote:

Some translations are pretty grim, some are heavenly...anyway, that's what I read this last week. I am also starting on a Harlan Coben that I missed somehow, and will report back In my loo, I am reading Stephen Fry's second installment of his memoirs. Having finished the Beano/Dandy Compendium last week. Last edited by Mal Hombre; June 28th, 2013 at 05:12 AM.. Reason: Oversize Image Removed 180 x 180 max |

The best selling fiction is romance novels for women, which recently has shifted over more racey fare. Its not exactly raw, but definitely more interesting than a cookbook. audio 8 hr 216mb http://www53.zippyshare.com/v/33292363/file.html http://www53.zippyshare.com/v/44492566/file.html |

One of two books I enjoyed over the holidays was The Last Town On Earth, by Thomas Mullen. It is set in a small community in rural Washington at the time of the influenza pandemic in 1918. In an attempt to keep the disease at bay, the town is quarantined but a deserting soldier from a nearby army base breaches the cordon and is allowed to stay on, as a prisoner. As the town elders fight among themselves over his future, people begin to fall ill and gradually the town is torn to pieces from within. It may sound a bit bleak, as holiday reads go, but I hugely enjoyed it
