where did it all go wrong
If theres one thing thats struck me about this forum its the friendliness . So my question is this .Is it just me or has it all gone to hell in a hand basket out there. Im fifty three so might be looking back with rose coloured glasses but 20 short years ago it was all so different and well friendlier .People had less personal choices but i think more freedoms to decide what to think and how to behave . We still watched each other but we werent watched and monitored constantly. Politicians told the same lies but compared to todays grouping they caused much less harm and at least looked like they themselves believed what they were saying. The law was still an ass but it was ours and worth abiding by.Children were still children and unlike now allowed to be children until they grew up.Technology was so slow it crawled while up to the minute contact by credit card sized mobiles still a fanciful star trek invention, yet it was a less stressful time than today and we were closer to each other in spite of it that lack of communication . Back then we had the same fears the boogyman still existed but we werent bombarded by hundreds of different stories about him.Is it just me or is the media at fault for where we find ourselves.Or was it the fall of the berlin wall that started it all off ,when east and west collided and the worst of both cultures flourished to the detriment of us all.
Where did it all go wrong and can it go right Simon |

Hmmm, where to start... How about -I noticed that on this particular thread there are a number of folks from the UK. No problems there - just making an observation is all. The television bit I can relate to - there is bugger all on TV to watch. Which leads me to my minor point: I enjoy where I live in Northern Canada. Cablevision or satelite doesn't exist where I have my house out in the bush, I don't miss any of the TV shows that are or were on so I find in that way I'm happier. No, I'm not some granola-head that retreated from life - I retired when I hit 42, was already divorced so who gives a s__t about a wife (I don't sound TOO bitter - do I?), I have oodles to do here so television is used to play VHS or DVD. Need or want? Don't need television.
"And that's all I got to say about that." |

Is it just me
Or is getting too much change a thing of absolute joy ?
Telling you fellow members receiving too much change is better than ……..receiving the correct amount Now it’s happened to me more times than i can remember (Although not as often as i’d want ). From a Tesco girl that only charged me for two bars of chocolate somehow missing the litre of milk and glossy magazine (Saving £4.55) . That outlander counter hanger at Harrods (Bloody awful place) who only rang up the price of a pashmina (Don’t ask) but didn’t remember to do the same with the much more expensive top (Saving £70) eventhough he removed the tag. To the pharmaceutical receptionist who forgot to ask for £21.60 ( The prescription was for three items ) letting me leave with a beaming smile and the same amount of cash i entered with Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah free purchases is it just me or is there anything better ? I mean apart from the obvious

I totally agree with the complicated technology vibe. I had to buy a digital TV(here in the states, television is going all digital on June 12th). I've never read an instruction book in my life. I'd just plug the set in and it would work. Not anymore. I had to read this instruction manual from front to back, twice, to get the darn thing working. And don't even get me started on hooking up the DVD player.

Nothing like venting wanton destruction towards mobile phones very good anti-stress therapy. |

Supermarkets that try to give the impression they are trying to save the world and cure cancer.
No you put beans on shelves so people can eat. Nothing more complex than that Mr Rocket Scientists. |

people that think good manners is no longer needed.
I saw a 'lady' (i use that term loosly) was having trouble getting through a door with bags of shopping, so me being me i went over to help and opened the door for her. 'I dont need no f*cking help, i can do it my *bleep* self. She then said some utter crap along the lines of that opening doors for women was wrong and unessesary and you get the drift. I was more than a little taken aback 'fair enough then' i said. So i let the door go. 30-40 ilb security door swung shut on her shopping. Trapping it in the door jamb. She turned the air blue. I walked away. Priceless. |
