It depends on the woman,a short elfin cut looks ridiculous on a large lady and buttock length hair looks a trifle OTT on a small scrawny girl.

Yes, short hair can look nice, but doesn't suit everybody. It draws attention to facial features, so she'd better look like an angel, no-doubts-it's-a-girl.
Hence my tip for ugly girls: grow a big hairdo. Not necessarily long, but lots of hair around your face. Oh, and long hair make you look younger, too.

My preference? Long hair (at least past shoulders). Because long, flowing, healthy hair look great on their own, no hairdo needed:

Short hair need time to grow back... so if you want that classy, sophisticated look (or if loose hair are not practical), why not tie them in a bun or chignon... instant short hair effect without cutting them!

Long hair. But not down-to-her-ass long. It seems when a girl has hair flowing down that long, her hair becomes her entire personality. Example A: Debra Jo Fondren:

Oh, and The-Girl-I'm-Embarrassed-I-Ever-Chased had hair down to her ass. So yeah, that style brings back bad memories.

I generally prefer longer hair, but I am also quite partial to "chic" shorter hairstyles.

Jane Seymour - must have long long hair

Halle Berry - short short hair

Monica Bellucci - must be long hair.

Michelle Pfeiffer - looks awful in long hair, gorgeous in that off the shoulder short hair.

Joan Severance - same hair as Pfeiffer looks grand, long hair looks poorly.

Salma Hayek - long hair. Only.

So, imo, it depends on who it is. I love Morena Baccarin in the "TinkerBell pixie cut" hair, but find her merely, mediocre with longer hair (even with the magnificent smile).

YMMV (I'm sure it does, lol)
