That is always going to happen, and the grounds should be built so it will not be a factor.

Not the first time something like this has happened in a MLB game.

Fucking dumb asses fans.

It's like being on a public transportation bus: do not extend your arms and any other limbs outside of the bus through the windows.

If you continue to do so and ignore the instructions of the bus drive, you will be asked to disembark the bus.

Same thing should apply when they are in their seats at a MLB game:

any fans who extend their arms and limbs outside of the purview area of their seats and interfere with the outcome of the game or with the players on the field, they will be asked to leave and banned from ever attending another MLB game that season and if they have any tickets for any future games they have already purchased, not only do those tickets get voided, they also don't get a refund.

If the Astros get eliminated it will be because to this point Justin Verlander is the only starter who has pitched well enough to win.

As for redesigning ballparks my youngest brother observes, "I don't worry about making things idiot proof because I figure the world will just make a better idiot."

Looks like the Dodgers will be keeping Clayton Kershaw after all.

As a baseball fan, I am glad to see this. Injuries and a balky back have made Kershaw human. It is doubtful that he will ever give them 200 innings and 7 to 8 WARP in a season again.

It really is a shame that Washington seems to have little interest in retaining Bryce Harper. I hope that he gets healthy and puts up 5 years like 2015 for his new team.

Joe Mauer has announced his retirement. IMO he is a first ballot Hall of Famer. Like Johnny Bench, injuries have shortened his career. Catching is such a brutal position. Buster Posey is another player beginning to look like a shell of his former self. All this makes Ivan Rodriguez's accomplishments even more remarkable - 2427 games as a catcher with 20,348 innings caught.

For the record, if I am a general manager there is no way in hell that i can recommend to ownership signing Bryce Harper to a $300+ million 10 year contract. Harper will probably have some monster seasons in the next few years, but he has gotten hurt about every other season. Tying up that much of my salary cap on an injury prone player is just not a responsible decision.

As a matter of fact, I would rather put my money into scouting and high quality minor league instruction than sign anybody to a monster contract. Even Mike Trout who was still worth 3 quality regulars in 2017 despite missing 48 games with injuries. Trout is the best bet to maintain value, but it is very unlikely that he will put up 3 more 10 win seasons. I wouldn't be surprised to see several nines and some eights, however. But one drunk driver running a red light can end it all in an instant.

I am from Washington DC and grew up with a lot of bad baseball, and then no baseball. I like Harper but he has not shown anything like the consistency of a Trout. That may partially be because of the frequent changes in manager and coaching in DC, but to me has only had one really great year, and he is a lightning rod the team could maybe do without. If he signs elsewhere the Nats still have a solid OF with Soto, Robles, Eaton, and Taylor. I think the signing of Corbin is good for the Nats, and they have seriously upgraded their catching situation with Gomes and Suzuki.

Congrats to Mariano Rivera, Edgar Martinez (finally), Mike Mussina and the late Roy Halladay, all elected to the Hall of Fame today. Rivera was the first candidate to be elected unanimously.

Exclamation Padres and Machado agree on contract

This is something that I never would have thought would happen, even though there has been real talk the past few weeks about the team negotiating with both Harper and Machado. WOW!

Winners and losers from Machado's $300 million deal with Padres

And on a sadder note, today's Union-Tribune also had an article reporting that Bruce Bochy has said this will be his last season managing the Giants. He was a good manager with the Padres, and shouldn't have been let go - but it worked out really well for him and Tim Flannery.

I don't think Manny cares as much about winning as he does about getting paid, but that's just me. He will not get his HR's or RBI's in Petco Park, and if the Padres don't get better pitching, they won't win much. On the other hand, San Diego is a great place to live. Excellent climate, not on a fault line, and great bars and restaurants, and of course, Legoland and the San Diego Zoo.
