Default ISO | How to deal with ISO image files

ISO files are "images" (a archived copy) of CD or DVD media (wiki). (related VEF thread on: VIDEO_TS folders)

ISO files can be handled by many programs, they can be burned, mounted, extracted and in case of video DVD ISO's they can be played by a few media players.

Will focus here on the programs needed to view video DVD ISO files on your computer (1) and to burn ISO files back to disc (2). Included is a small guide on how to burn ISO files using ImgBurn (3).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Play video DVD ISO on your computer | best suited for this imo is VLC Player, it can open and play back DVD's in ISO format without problems. Just "drag & drop" the ISO file on VLC players program window when its opened.

VLC player (9 up to 30 MB, depends on the OS)

System requirements: Windows All, Mac OS X, Linux, etc.
100% Freeware | Website | Download

Note that VLC works with skins, i use the WMP11 skin as shown on the screens above. You can still find it and several other skins on this official VLC page: Skins

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Burn ISO | by writing a ISO file back to CD/DVD you will get a duplicate of the disc where the image was made of. All burning programs, like Nero Burning ROM, will be able to burn ISO files, when you do not have a burning program and are on Windows OS then ImgBurn is a good freeware alternative.

ImgBurn (2 MB)

System requirements: Windows 9x/Me/NT4/2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 (including all the 64-bit versions)
100% Freeware | Website | Download

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. ISO Burning Guide | small guide on how to burn a ISO file with ImgBurn.

Requirements : you will need a CD/DVD writer in your computer and blank CD/DVD media (discs) to burn on.

Formats | Rough guide:

0 to 700/870 MB.......blank CD + CD writer (wiki)
700 to 4700 MB........blank DVD-5 + DVD writer (wiki)
4700 to 8500 MB.......blank DVD-9 + Dual Layer DVD writer (wiki)

Burning | Launch ImgBurn:

1. click "Write image file to disc"

2. when you have multiple CD/DVD writers then select the one to use
2a. insert a blank disk to your CD/DVD writer
3. browse to and load the ISO file
4. start the writing

5. have "Verify" selected, then after the burn the disk will be checked for burn errors

Succes.

Also if you just want to see what is inside you can just open ISO with Win RAR :-).

or install daemon tools light, this offers you to install virtual harddrives on the fly - either to create own images or to mount image files and use them like a CD/DVD/Blu-ray.

it's free, it's easy and it supports multiple image file formats, no tutorial necessary:
