I'm against the Monarchy, but I have to admit that the only British people that I clearly understand are your monarchs.
They speak a very beautiful and understandable English.

When I lived in the Uk, a long time ago, I remember drinking beer with friends and watching darts on television

Do people in the UK still do this? Are there still famous darts players? I remember there was a guy, an Eric something, who was the celebrated darts master of the day .. . He later published a memoir, and I wondered to myself “what could be in it”?

Darts is bigger than ever,Eric Bristow is the guy You're thinking of.The current most famous is Phil"The Power"Taylor or was as He just retired He was beaten in His last match by Rob"No Nickname" Cross..

Speaking personally No,I don't even have trouble understanding the many and various US accents,Noo Englaand,Noo Yawk,Dixie or Californian..

Americans think there are two British accents. Upper class and cockney.

Britons think there are two American accents. New York and Southern.
