The King's Speech richly deserved it's success IMHO,as did Colin Firth whether He and They can repeat it at the oscars remains to be seen.In My book a remake being in the running for Best Picture is little short of an outrage.

I think any awards 'The Kings Speech' wins are well deserved, especially Best picture and best actor. I've seen it twice, excellent movie and I think Colin Firth did an absolutely masterful job. It can't be easy to convincingly play someone who has difficulty speaking and I though teh look of fear/panic in his eyes when he approached the mike at Wembley Stadium at the beginning was true acting!

Well that's a pretty comprehensive list Ghaleon-be interesting to see how many of those you get right. I noticed that the last time in the Actress category we had three nominations and lost and this year none at all, so it's a pretty safe bet that an American will win that. I think Colin Firth has a good chance of winning to complete the hat-trick of Golden Globe/BAFTA. I think in general 'The King's Speech' will win a lot of Oscars, and I would also like to see Inception win a few as that was the best film I've seen in years-science fiction wise.

Well he did it, Colin Firth is the Oscar winner for best actor-The King's Speech. That film won the big four prizes, including Best Original Screenplay-David Siedler, Best Picture, and Best Director-Tom Hooper.
Inception won some craft prizes which is great because it was done here and once again shows we can take on the best in the world when it comes to effects. It also won 3 other prizes.

Natalie Portman won best actress award, for Black Swan-which considering the film she made with Ashton Kutcher recently, proves she can do both comedy and drama.

Melissa Leo won best supporting actress for her role in The Fighter, whilst the best supporting actor went to that film in the guise of welsh-born Christian Bale.

Best Animation: Toy Story 3
Art Direction: Alice in Wonderland
Cinematography: Inception
Costume Design: Alice in Wonderland
Documentary Feature: Inside Job(Banking crisis)
Documentary-Short Subject: Strangers No More
Film Editing: The Social Network
Foreign Language Film: In a Better World(Denmark)
Make-up: The Wolfman: Rick Baker & Dave Elsey
Best Orignal Score: The Social Network-Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross
Best Original Song: Toy Story 3 (We Belong Together: Randy Newman)
Best Short Animation: The Lost Thing-(Shaun Tan & Andrew Ruhemann)-British
Best Short Live Action Film: God of Love: Luke Matheny
Best Sound Editing: Inception-Richard King
Best Sound Mixing: Inception (Lora Hirschberg, Gary A. Rizzo and Ed Novick)
Best Visual Effects: Alice in Wonderland-(Ken Ralston, David Schaub, Carey Villegas and Sean Phillips)
Best Writing(Adapted Screenplay) : The Social Network-Aaron Sorkin
And that concludes this year's list of Oscar winners. Feel free to leave comments.

I'm a Yank so I can't speak about the BAFTAs (I'm not familiar enough with them to make any kind of enlightened comment) However, as for the Oscars - Can any award for cinema that numbers among its' winners hacks like John Wayne; Ernest Borgnine; Cliff Robertson; and James Cameron while (conspicuously) excluding Peter O'toole, Richard Burton, Alfred Hitchcock and Akira Kurosawa have ANY validity at all? Sure Kurosawa won a 'best foreign film' award, but not for Seven Samurai, or Rashomon, or Ran but for Derzu Uzala (a movie even the most diehard Kurosawa fan has barely heard of). Kurosawa and Hitchcock also received the 'lifetime achievement award' from the Academy - an utter bullshit accolade parceled out every couple of years to recipients who the Academy would never give a real award to but are (unfortunately) too important, influential and integral to film history to just openly ignore.

The British Academy of Film and Television Awards is really no different to the Oscar's but they do tend to have more awards dedicated to past directors and other leading lights now sadly no more, such as Michael Balcon, Sir David Lean etc. The television awards are now separate but used to be part of the whole evening but it used to last so long it was thought better to have two separate awards evenings. The only major difference between the two is a BAFTA is a facial mask based on a design by Mizzi Cunliffe and an OSCAR is a statuette based on something that looked like someone's grandfather. If you win a BAFTA there is an odds on chance of winning an OSCAR but this doesn't always work out-see True Grit and The Social Network. Tom Hanks joked with BBC reporter Tim Muffett that "one day you will award a BAFTA to an American actor/actress" well they have won in the past but like Oscars, British actors/actresses don't always win them. It is interesting to note that the award is the same as the name of the organisation and yet Oscar isn't-the organisation is AMPTAS(Academy of Motion Picture. Television & Arts & Sciences) but you don't win an AMPTAS you win an Oscar.

Ninth cinematography nomination for Roger Deakins and still no statuette on the mantelpiece.
