Like Mr Dog, I find Mr Fats to be a fine fellow. They type that I would have no trouble sitting down and have a beer with. His posts just echo Fox News talking points, which is fine, but understand that sadly more times than not Fox News talking points and the facts on the ground are a wee bit different.

Interesting that it took this long for the Nazi card to get dropped... You know which news channel is famous for comparing the current President to Nazi's?

1) Boring
2) Accurate and Informative and
3) More about facts and less about opinions

I regularly watch Fox news and it fails on all three of those points.

I just think news should a: not merely reinforce your opinion and b: get you mad at what they are saying not in your concurrence with their response.

Ie: when I read Al Jazeera or Haaretz most of the time I am furious but I take a second and remember that there are other views that are equally skewed.

As it is with MSNBC & CNN on a daily... no, hourly, basis, IMO.
The question would be, are we both objecting to opposing views based on demonstrable factual error... or simply because someone isn't telling us what we want to hear?
In the end, it's probably a good idea that both sides at least have a voice... to deliver the "real facts" (as they see them), & comforting reinforcement for dearly held illusions.
If Fats sometimes agrees with FN's viewpoint, so what? I doubt he'd need their input to form his own opinion... which is just as valid, & based in "fact" as your own.

I dislike both networks BTW (& haven't been nearly bored enough to watch either in a while). O'Reilly's a thug in a $1000 suit who writes & pimps books of lowest common denominator patriotism, Hannity's a bully, & Rachel Madow's an egregious oxygen bandit, IMO... yet all three occasionally, perhaps inadvertently, bumble across an issue it's good to hear addressed

hound dog: To be honest SF, a good deal of your opinions and arguments on various issues seem to be along the same line as that which Fox news is presenting. You've stated your conservative position many times, and while I wouldn't say you're radical right, I would characterize your positions on most issues as somewhere between moderate right and far right. You may not rely on Fox for your news, but generally speaking you're not that far off from them on some issues.

Just my opinion, but I tend to to get more facts and less propaganda from PBS and BBC when it comes to world news.

Fats is actually one of the few conservatives on this forum I respect. He is able to have a debate on issues with a fairly open mind and doesn't resort to insult when others still disagree with him, a pretty rare trait for a conservative in my experience.

Observation might find it a pretty rare trait for liberals (yourself excepted) here as well.

I'd say that's the a big reason I tend to debate mostly with him as opposed to other conservatives who post here. Conversations with Fats never end with a ranting post of insults.

No, you're usually-well mannered & you've never called anyone a Nazi. That was an inaccurate exaggeration & I should have found a better metaphor for the comments that usually accompany unflattering reference to suspected viewers of Fox News (which I'm not). Apologies.

Where people get the information that they base their opinions on is none of my business. A few posters have described him as parroting the talking points of the Fox network, and SF asked why. I do not share that belief regarding him, and probably should have let those who have made statements along those lines answer for themselves instead of adding my two cents worth on why they may think that way.

I generally try to get facts from more than one source before declaring my opinions inviolable. PBS and BBC present their news in a more thought provoking manner without being an overt attempt to incite. That style is more appealing to me, and why I use them as sources of information.

I can't say I am much bothered by the fact that Israeli National News doesn't like the BBC; I rather like the fact, actually. I won't lie; I dislike Israel a lot. Its just that I dislike most of her neighbours a lot more.

There are much more serious grounds on which to criticise the BBC than that a semi fascist country doesn't like the coverage it is getting on BBC World News. The BBC played a very murky and sinister role in several of the celebrity-paedophile stories which have come to light in the last 3-4 years, Jimmy Savile in particular. It is supported by a statutory license fee, in effect a tax on every British household; but it has shown a wasteful and cavalier attitude to senior management bonuses and salaries which amounts to a fraud on the taxpayers. I'd like to see some blood spilt in the BBC (metaphorically of course). But the fact is that their World News coverage is excellent and widely recognised as excellent. The Israelis dislike it because it tells the truth about their disgraceful conduct whereas as far as I know, not one American news network will do so. However it is important to cast your net wider and not rely on one source only, which includes not relying only on the BBC. No news network is infallible and the BBC has been wrong many times.

I more than anyone else would love to drop the whole Faux Noise thing. It is just a wee bit of challenge for me when you have regulars here state that they are only interested in "just the facts ma'am", and then proceed to quote Fox News talking heads saying things that are at best mistakes, at worst made up crap.

You will note, that I rarely open with "Wow guess what nonsenseMegyn Kelly made up last night". Nope, almost every time I'm here correcting something that someone else posted. Often being asked for and almost always delivering quotes, links and documentation to support the correction. I do watch Fox News regularly, though not for new, more for entertainment.

The short response, want me to stop taking Fox News to task? Simply stop posting their BS speaking points and hypocritical spin.
