Default Depositfiles

Went to download a video from Depositfiles and it froze my computer telling me I had a virus and to call the number. Trying to close the page doesn't work, had to turn the computer off.
Run Malwarebytes and my internet security full scan, nothing found.

It sounds like you got hit by one of those random "ransomware" type ads. It isn't necessary to turn off the PC when these hit, just open your Task Manager from the Start button (I can get to this in win 8.1 just by right clicking the Start button), then right click your browser in the task list and choose "End Task".

This will shut down the browser completely, overriding whatever malicious code that has frozen your browser. You are then back to the desktop and can resume as normal.

I've had this - can't remember from whom - and it's necessary to also clear the browser cache.

Try running MWB as a Custom Scan with the 'scan for rootkits' tick box set on.

It would also be useful to download and install the MWB anti-exploit add-on which protects browser and add-ons against zero-day threats. Even in its 'free' form this is effective, I use it and IMHO there is little need to upgrade to the paid-for version.

Sounds very much like the rogueware/scareware attacks
that have been around since the early 00s

This site lists 349 by the end of 2007
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

The different types of the malicious explained
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/vir...ams-scareware/

The tactic is very simple - scare the novice IT user into thinking their infected
and have no choice but to buy help via the phone number

Sadly this still works on a small percentage of the population

More likely than any malware infection you might find the hosts file now has some
unblocked bad servers / sites which you'll be sent to when searching.

Small program like rkill should tell you if anything has been changed in windows

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/windows/

rkill explained - read before using because it does have conflicts with some software

On a side note to this, is there anyway to stop the notification pop-up when you click on a log-in box, it happens everytime and is $@#%^ annoying

Just realized this is Firefox crap

Default DepositFiles download issue

Since last night I cannot download any files from DepositFiles. If I click on the Gold or Regular Download buttons I get no response. I have cleared my cache and cookies and nothing will work. Any suggestions?

I fired up an old laptop and it is doing the same thing. It the site down?
