I think the shaved look became the norm in the late 90's. While that's what I always preferred, I am nostalgic of the times when a shaven pussy was the exception and full bush the norm. It made it all the more transgressive and erotic.

Having said that, I hope the shaven look will remain prevalent, at least in the real world.

Come on folks. Some ladies like the hairy apeman look and some hate it.
Some people like the bush and some hate it.
Personally I don't like camouflage.
I like to see what I am getting.
I just could never understand why some folks got turned on by hair in the wrong place.
But I suppose there are people who love hair, be it, armpits, head hair or hairy legs.

My point being, we are all different.

And so, thankfully, are ladies.

When I first saw a shaven pussy in 1984 it looked ugh! I gradually got used to it but in the late 80s it became increasingly common.

These things coma and go in phases. In 5 years time someone will start a thread, do you remember when shaven pussies....

I agree with those who say H*stl*r really pushed the trend towards hairless. At first I really despised the hairless look because to me it made the ladies look kinda pre-pubescent - not a turn on at all! I like to see women, not girls. (In general I never much liked Flynt's portrayal of women anyway; I was always a Pen*hou*e guy.)

On the other hand I would NOT like to see a return to the wild, huge bushes of the 60s-70s! I like to see a lady's cunt that looks appetizing, not one that might give you a mouthful of hair.

For me, both women and men look best with a bit of hair to show that they are adults, but neatly trimmed short. And of course you don't want to see hair anywhere near the anus at all; that just looks unclean to me.

The first Playboy model to go completely bare in her centerfold was Dalene Kurtis (Sep 2001).

After that you start to notice the trend getting mainstream in Playboy around 2004.

Well, you're taking my words out of context a bit. I was advocating for trimmed bush, not shaved (ie scissors, not blade). The two have very different connotations. Trimmed is still natural, kinda.

As for "unclean" I was referring to crack hair on either gender, not pussy hair. Sorry, but it's a fact that you can't keep your back door as clean if there's a bunch of thick hair back there.

....or maybe we're just splitting hairs here

Angel Kelly, Bionca, Blondi Bee, Careena Collins, Erica Boyer, Hyapatia Lee, Jeanna Fine, Kascha, Candie

Cool...but none of those pictures you showed had the women shaved totally bald...which is the norm today. The bald pussy was a oddity going back to the early 80's to where they would have special editions of porn magazines or film loop and clips showing them...it was THAT out of the ordinary. What you linked there was the common practice of shaving the lips, but keeping a good amount of hair on top. My fond memories of the golden age of porn had all the women like this.

I guess I wasn't clear. I mean, thanks for taking the time and effort (seriously, loved those photos), but just trimming or shaving the lips isn't what I mean. It's rare today to see ANY hair. Maybe a slight strip here and there. I actually wouldn't mind them going back to the 80's way of doing things.

The OP said:
"So when was it that it became "normal" to have shaved pussies in porn? I'm guessing sometime in the 90's...maybe late 90's?"

Maybe we need to define "porn". Are you talking women who simply pose nude for photos or porn "actresses" trying to make a living in movies/videos?
It is also necessary to distinguish between the trimming and shaving that took place because visible hair looked too GOOD ( much like leaving a nipple uncovered) - this was the case way back through the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Women's pubic hair shrank because swimsuit bottoms became more and more high-cut. This trend actually reversed itself about 10 years ago.
No, somewhere along the line any pubic hair became BAD, and even parts that skimpy bottoms covered became shaved.

I don't know a lot about the history of porn films, but I understand there was a real heyday from about 1980 as videotape became available. Porn became a booming industry. Then I understand that somewhere around the early 90s, the AIDS scare devastated the industry. A number of porn stars died of it and many left the business. This was about the time that almost all women in porn started shaving completely. I have a weird theory that somehow the shaved look got associated with being "clean" and less likely to have disease. I know there is absolutely no scientific relationship between pubic hair and STDs, but I think an association grew up in people's minds. As the 90s turned into the new millinium , this association , murky and irrational as it was, transferred itself to society in general, especially as a multitude of STDs other than AIDS became a major concern. Of course the hair removal industry pounced on this and promoted it heavily, especially with products that specifically appealed to women.

So now shaved women are considered "safer" from an STD standpoint because they are "cleaner". I know personally, though I detest the saved look, I would prefer a pick-up or prostitute who was hairless. This is why I have no interest in either one.

Anomipeluda, that's certianly an intriguing theory. AIDS was certainly a strong turning point against the sexually liberal period of the 60s and 70s. My first thought though would be one of chronology; the manic shaving didn't start until considerably later than the AIDS scare started, which was early 80s. It would make sense though for a delay between the start of the disease and the effect on the industry.

Certainly (this is my point I'm generally making), hair is assoicated with dirt and disease; carrying lice and so on and just from comments in this forum from "baldies" we can see that everday association being made.
