Cool Three more, quickly............

What a great idea for a forum ! A hell of a lot of fun.

Here are three more movies I'd recommend:

Cross of Iron (1977) - James Coburn, Maximilian Schell
A squad of German soldiers fighting on the Eastern Front during WWII and led by a battle-hardened sergeant fight to survive Soviet attacks and their own fanatical commanders.

The Enemy Below (1957) - Robert Mitchum, Curt Jurgens
During World War II, an American destroyer escort discovers a German U-boat in the South Atlantic. A deadly duel between the two ships ensues, and the American captain must draw upon all his experience to defeat the equally skilled and determined German commander.

The Train (1964) - Burt Lancaster, Paul Scofield
In 1944, a German colonel loads a train with French art treasures to send to Germany. The Resistance must stop it without damaging the priceless cargo. Will an apathetic railroad man come to the aid of the Resistance in time ?

Another funny War Pic was Charles Chaplins "Shouler Arms" where he captured Kaiser Wilhelm II. and kicked him in the ass. The War setting itself was very relistic.

The Dawn Patrol. Errol Flynn, David Niven, Basil Rathbone. Wonderful film about RFC pilots in France in 1916.

I would add one of my favorite Stooges shorts "Boobs in Arms". The scene where the Sgt. trys to teach them close order drill is a riot. Rick, you included my other two. I'm right with you, man. Mad love to the Stooges!

Exclamation The Sherman tank

Quote:
British tanks were hopeless crap (true).
More British troops probably died in the American made Sherman tank than in their own. The Sherman was fueled by gasoline instead of diesel, and was too thinly armored to provide adequate defense against German anti-tank weapons, esp. the fearsome 88mm. Consequently, it almost always caught fire when hit with deadly results for the crew. Hence it's nicknames like "The Tommy Cooker" and "The Ronson Lighter", so named because it always caught fire on the first strike, just like the lighter.

And the double bogie trucks (wheels) were totally vulnerable.
